How can a tutor help you master the PSAT?

The PSAT is an exam taken before the SAT that is meant to be a gauge of how well students will perform on the SAT. The test is also used as a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. There are several types of the PSAT, including the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, AND PSAT 8/9. The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 10 are the same test, but the latter is only given to tenth graders and can't be used for National Merit Scholarships. The PSAT 8/9, however, is an entirely different test used to determine a student's progress. All versions are made up of two components: evidence-based reading and writing, and math. No matter what version of the test your student is preparing for, being in top form can help them perform well on the exam. To allow your student an opportunity to strive for top form, have them work with a tutor. Varsity Tutors' educational directors can help match you with PSAT tutoring in New Jersey that can help your student with test prep.

The PSAT tests accumulative knowledge from a student's schooling. If your student has struggled in English or math in the past, then certain parts of the exam may be a challenge for them. A personal PSAT tutor in New Jersey can work with your student to assess their current skills, find the gaps, and create a curriculum that addresses these issues. Students who find math difficult may need a refresher on the various equations and algebra concepts that may appear on the exam. Your student's tutor can provide them with materials that address their learning needs.

Met the student at his building, started talking a little bit about the test/his plans, and then got to work on a few logical reasoning and logic games problems. I'll be excited to see how the practice test goes on Sunday.

1st time visit, so spent most of the time going through a practice test to gauge her current skills. I showed her how to go about solving certain types of problems, and developed similar problems for her to solve on her own afterwards. Also spent a little bit of time talking about test-taking strategies since she will be taking the admissions test soon.

The student and I met on Tuesday afternoon for our last tutoring session. We reviewed the latest unit on Modern Physics, including Quantum theory, Photoelectric Effect, Black-body radiation, and atomic structure. We took our time to review basics again and she benefited from that.

The student and I did a science test together this session. We reviewed some strategies for science and went over all the problems that she got wrong. She received a better score on this test than she did on her diagnostic.

The student and I had our last session before the exam. Overall, she is prepared for the ISEE. I encouraged her again to use her time wisely, especially on the math achievement section where it is unlikely that she will be able to finish all of the problems. Overall, she is well prepared.
