Session Summaries by Latin Tutors

Latin Tutoring review by Emily in Provo, UT
The student and I worked to prepare her for her exam tomorrow. We practiced verbs like gustar, verbs that change meaning when they are reflexive, and verbs followed by prepositions. We discussed a few grammar questions she had such as the use of conmigo/tigo/sigo. I left her with many practice activities, including true or false quizzes on reading passages, as this will be a topic for the test. We talked about some strategies she can use to avoid making small errors such as marking up the test extensively and systematically before beginning.

Latin Tutoring review by Manuel S. in Provo, UT
This was the first tutoring session with the student after our assessment meeting. We did a comprehensive review of the Spanish present tense, with regular, stem changings, y and all its forms, and irregular verbs. The review included the use of the verbs in affirmative expressions, written and oral. Then, she completed 120 questions (fill in the space with the proper verbal form), missing only one of them. As an assignment, she will redo the same quiz by herself and will review the notes used during the session. Her participation and attention was total and highly satisfactory. She learned some new words and the meeting of most of the verbs used during the session. She is dedicated and shows a high interest in the class.

Latin Tutoring review by Crystal in Provo, UT
We spent the time speaking mostly in Spanish. I asked the student to tell me about a number of things he has done in the past, which is what he said he was having the most trouble with. He speaks well, and he just needs to continue practicing speaking out loud.

We worked on forming the subjunctive and translating sentences using the subjunctive. The student did pretty well with the conjugations for the most part.

Latin Tutoring review by Maureen in Provo, UT
The student worked on a take-home writing assignment using the imperfect tense to describe a photograph of her as a child. She remembers many of the endings/ forms of the imperfect. She seems somewhat confident in her ability to write in the imperfect. We prepared notes for her to use during an in-class writing assignment later this week and brainstormed possible topics and answers.
