Chemistry Tutoring review by Krystal in Provo, UT
Tonight, we continued with polyatomic ions and ionic compounds. The student is having trouble learning her ionic compounds chart. I suggested that she make note cards and write them 10 times each.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Nick in Provo, UT
In this session, we covered electron spin, the noble gas shortcut for electron configurations, and the rules for how electrons fill orbitals. The student was having a hard time remembering the significance of Hund's rule, the Aufbau principle, and the Pauli Exclusion Principle, so we worked on note-taking skills. I left him with some textbook reading to reinforce the concepts from this session, and we will start a weekly review of his notes to help reinforce old concepts and build a basis for comprehension of new ones.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Norhan in Provo, UT
Today the student and I worked on naming compounds and balancing equations. We did a worksheet with some tricky problems but completed them all correctly. We talked about which elements should be balanced first and recognizing patterns of combustion problems. She said she felt more comfortable with the material at the end of the session. I told her to attempt doing the worksheet without looking at the answers after Thanksgiving break to see how well she understands the material.

Chemistry Tutoring review by John in Provo, UT
We had the "fun" of trying to figure out the world of molecular and electron orbital geometries, using VSEPR theory, and Lewis structures to make sense out of what these molecules were doing. After we got through some basic hurdles, it started to flow and click; it wasn't so hard after all.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Michael in Provo, UT
We covered gas reactions, involving the use of the ideal gas law to determine limiting reactants/product amount as well as volumes and density of product/reactant. The student came in with a good grasp of the material. I shadowed him (did problems in concert) and pointed out areas of error and where he could be efficient. Overall, he has a good grasp on the material and will benefit from further practice to see other iterations.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Jeffrey in Provo, UT
We reviewed material from the beginning of the year. It was mostly clearing up definitions (e.g. accuracy and precision, percent error, and limiting reagent). We then spent some time doing some practice problems on limiting reagents. We finished off with a brief discussion of the intermediate value theorem, and roots of high order polynomials.
