American Fork, UT tutoring
Today we covered 3 chapters from sin/cos law to principles of parabola. This is an review session, which is everything the student learned in previous quarters. He knows pretty much everything, but still needs some practice on given formulas. Before I left, I gave him some questions from the text for practice. I am sure it will be helpful, and next time we will continue for another three chapters that he asked for help with.

The student has completed all the topics covered in the AP Calc AB course. He has just started into the preparation for the AP exam. I gave him a copy of a practice exam, which we will go over as we get nearer exam time. The student had a couple of questions on limit problems. These problems were based on the limit definition formula for a derivative and I showed him how to recognize it and use it for solving these particular limit problems. I also showed him how to use L'Hopital's rule for determining the limit of a rational function with an indeterminate form (0/0 or infin/infin). We then moved on to optimization problems and we worked several problems involving maximum areas and volumes and maximum profits. The student has grasped the strategy in solving these kind of problems. Going forward, I will put together a list of all the topics covered in the AP exam and we will review a couple of these topics each week. I have several short cuts and simpler methods for solving multiple choice questions on the exam.

We started with a quick review of the questions from her recent test that gave her trouble. She had some trouble with a word problem based on distance/speed and another that she had stopped solving halfway through it. Overall, she knew the material fairly well. We spent most of the hour on her homework, as she requested. The problems were all based on charting data and frequencies. We worked out a system for her to sort the data, decide on format and intervals, and complete the charts.
