Good session today. Returned to working on real world problems with student from the previous day. Today was way more of a supportive role for me, a little more relaxed.

Tutoring review by Ian in Eagle Mountain, UT
The student hasn't started her new chapter of study yet, so her homework for today was more computer-based work. We did that for about 40 minutes, reviewing multiplications of fractions, ordering fractions with unlike denominators, and placing complex numbers on number lines. After this, we decided to get a head start on her homework for Wednesday, which was basically a review for the material that she will cover in chapter six. For the most part, this material gave no problems, but the student is starting to try to rush through problems again, thus making simple mistakes. I encouraged her to recopy the problem before starting and write out each step completely instead of taking shortcuts. We finished this in about 40 minutes as well, so I spent the rest of the time introducing the lesson that she will learn in class on Friday (the interior angle theorem).

The student is working on angles for a mini section before the holiday break. We reviewed the vocabulary for this section. We were classifying angles and triangles. The classification was based on the angle measurement and the side lengths. We also drew angles using a protractor with specified degrees. He did a great job with the drawing and classification. This unit also was discussing parallel, perpendicular and intersecting lines.

Tutoring review by Gabriela in Eagle Mountain, UT
The student and I covered solving systems of equations by elimination and substitution today. We reviewed the concept during the tutoring session because he had missed the class in which the concept was covered. We did several problems together from the chapter quiz and I left him with additional practice to go over the concept.
