Algebra Tutoring review by Mattius in Provo, UT
Today was the student's first day back to homework since his midterms. While he had some difficulty recalling early concepts and complex ones that may not have been covered entirely on the tests, he is still able to use the abilities he is proficient with, like factoring, combination/simplification of like terms, and finding least common denominators to make complicated problems simple. This technique will get him back into the swing of things with these new concepts they are moving on to in class.

Today, over the course of two sessions, the student and I review scientific notation, absolute value, and adding/subtracting polynomials. These are difficult concepts that he has been excelling at. He also completed his review homework successfully.

I worked with the student on reviewing for his upcoming test on polynomials and exponent functions. We worked extensively on knowing when to use FOIL, combining like terms, or realizing that you can't simplify the functions anymore. We will start with negative drills at the beginning of next session.

Algebra Tutoring review by Zoheb in Provo, UT
The student and I worked on some more speed problems. We tried something more difficult today. She's still struggling with seeing the way forward in math problems, also with multiplication and division. She needs to learn her multiplication tables and drill basic division problems. That being said, she's learning quickly and is starting to understand the fundamentals of algebra. The student still doesn't have new material, so we reviewed the extra stuff I taught him on Wednesday. I gave him some practice problems for the mod operation and his understanding of it is pretty solid. I taught him some more properties about it and it seems like it isn't too difficult for him. We discussed how to add and multiply complex numbers, which is pretty easy, and then I taught him how to divide complex numbers, which is a very irritating process. Surprisingly, he figured out how to do it pretty quickly; very few people ever manage that. Frankly you should expect an A from him.

Algebra Tutoring review by Richard in Provo, UT
The student has a quiz on Monday and a test on Wednesday on Rules of Exponents, Multiplying Polynomials, and Factoring. I gave him numerous sets of practice problems and had him work them. Then I checked his answers. I gave them to him 10 problems at a time over the three main topics. He did pretty well with just a few things he needed to jog his memory about. Then I gave him a set of problems all mixed up. Finally, at the end of the session we covered another type of factoring that he will be doing in class.
