Session Summaries by SAT Writing and Language Tutors

SAT Writing and Language Tutoring review by Folami in Joliet, IL
The student and I had a great session. We worked on reading comprehension. We reviewed the Goldilocks effect and how to apply it. We discussed ways to eliminate tough choices. We moved on to math and discussed isolation of absolute values and solving for variables. We discussed dimension analysis and its applications. Overall, she seemed to grasp the information and was able to apply it. Her homework is to work on the practice test 35-45 minutes a day. Overall, this was a good class.

SAT Writing and Language Tutoring review by Josh in Joliet, IL
The student and I reviewed each of the topics of the SAT Math. She was most struggling with the Additional Topics section that includes some analytics and geometry problems. She was motivated to review aspects of the problems she didn't remember and new techniques to better succeed. I included some strategies for test taking; she should remember to keep the multiple choice options in mind, so that she could immediately mark her answer once it is found in the problem to save on time. She seems to have improved from our last session after taking another practice SAT section.

The student and I reviewed her coordinate geometry and line structures in the first lesson of her workbook. While she did not like the material, she nonetheless took plenty of notes and redid certain questions several times. At the end of the session, we reviewed some reading.

SAT Writing and Language Tutoring review by Brooke in Joliet, IL
The student and I reviewed her diagnostic reading test and found that she struggled more with reading passages and did very well on the grammar and writing portions. We used an online learning program to do some extra reading practice. For next week, she is going to take a full length practice test to get an idea of where her starting score is. We also plan to work on math next week.

SAT Writing and Language Tutoring review by Alexandra in Joliet, IL
The student and I reviewed her homework, which she did really well in! Then we did a practice test together. I can see improvement in her reading comprehension and how she answers questions. Not only does she often choose the right answer, but she is using good test-taking skills to eliminate answers and think critically about the options. She recognizes that her vocabulary is lacking, and I tried to impress upon her the importance of reading to improving vocabulary. Her homework is a worksheet I will send her and reading at least 50 pages in her book.

SAT Writing and Language Tutoring review by Songnam in Joliet, IL
The student and I reviewed her past SAT math sections and worked up a list of math topics to drill over the next few weeks. We spent nearly the entire time discussing trigonometry from the basics: sine, cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, cotangent, special right triangles, the unit circle, and identities. She got nearly every question right. I assigned her 2 trigonometry worksheets to complete.
