Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Tiani in Joliet, IL
We covered more synthesis reactions that combined elimination reactions with addition and substitution reactions. The student was struggling with some of the anti-Markovnikov vs Markovnikov reagents, but caught on quickly later on in the appointment. He was very appreciative of the material covered since he starts his classes next week. We talked more about making notecards of this week's material to practice and get used to. He feels more prepared for this class.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Seth in Joliet, IL
During my two hour session with the student, we discussed the first three chapters in his Organic Chemistry book. These were tempered by the class notes he had taken. We began by discussing the basics of Organic Chemistry and the outline that the course will likely take, in terms of content. We specifically spent time working out different resonance structures, and I cleared up any misconceptions he had about the topic. We also spent time working through the definitions of the different acids and bases, and we concluded by working through some homework questions that he did not fully understand. He was polite and had a positive and earnest attitude. He readily attempted to explain concepts back to me so that he could fully articulate the reasoning behind certain observations and rules. He also had a fairly strong background in General Chemistry, which will be useful as the course progresses. He appears to take neat and detailed notes, which will be useful as the course progresses.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Ana in Joliet, IL
We covered addition mechanisms, specifically hydrohalogenation, hydrogenation, and hydration reactions. We then discussed stereochemistry concepts like chirality. We also discussed polymerization reactions and how they relate to OChem. We then practiced breaking down mechanisms into nucleophiles and electrophiles and how to apply that process to other mechanisms. We looked through the student's notes at specific questions she had on notation and common themes in OChem. Lastly, we discussed the structure of the class and what type of material the class would cover and at what depth.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Dana in Joliet, IL
We covered reagents today. I encouraged the student to memorize them. My best advice at this moment in time is for the student to draw these out as many times as he possibly can on a whiteboard, and do it daily! We also worked with protecting groups and a few obscure mechanisms to better visualize our products.
