Spanish Tutoring review by Daniel in Joliet, IL
Today we continued our work on Spanish verbs, with more of a focus on the preterito and the imperfecto. I noticed a distinct improvement in the student's ability to keep up a conversation in these tenses in comparison to our last session already, which was great! We spent some time making sentences with specific verbs, and then moving onto a dialogue about what she did yesterday and today. Later we moved on to a domino game to practice making sentences in the preterito tense. We finished off by looking over some of her homework and doing some more practice specifically with the final exam review sheet she has from her teacher. I left her with a few exercises that she can try to complete for our next session, but that is up to her.

Spanish Tutoring review by Alexa in Joliet, IL
The student and I spent this session preparing study materials for his Spanish final. We went through each of the vocabulary units he has covered since the beginning of the year and made flashcards. He was asked to translate the words after he heard them in Spanish and then write both the Spanish and the English translation down on the flashcards, which he could then use to study independently. Again, he needs to work on slowing down to spell words correctly and asking for help when he needs it. In addition, he should spend some time practicing the vocabulary terms on his own. Our next session will focus on the grammar concepts covered since the beginning of the school year. We will go over all of the vocabulary words again. Overall, a productive session.

During this session, we reviewed the student's online homework. The homework covered por vs. para, the subjunctive, and finances vocabulary. We spent time discussing the various uses of por vs para and how to conjugate the verbs (subjunctive). By the end of the exercises, she had a solid basic understanding of these concepts.

After our brief break, so speaking felt a bit rusty. Therefore, we spent almost the entire session with conversation practice (about college visits, readings in other classes, etc.). We also reviewed the rules for accent marks.

Today, we worked on direct object pronouns, and the student did quite well. We discussed how much of the content she's internalized as demonstrated by how naturally she identifies parts of speech, uses correct subjects, conjugates verbs for each subject, and converts adjectives according to the gender and number of the noun they are modifying. We then went back to the beginning to help her review for finals. We practiced greetings and casual conversation because about ten percent of her final will be oral questions, numbers, and time. Finally, we went through and identified topics for which I will bring additional materials for our next session.

We continued our review of the preterite tense, focusing on the verbs oir, ver, and leer. We practiced saying dates in Spanish. We used a picture to discuss a scene with vocabulary related to the beach. We reviewed the verb estar and its uses. The student will start preparing a list of phrases and vocabulary he will be able to use when he goes to Mexico.
