ACT Reading Tutoring review by Maddie in Joliet, IL
Today we focused on reading and science. The student seems to be gaining a lot of confidence in her abilities in both subjects, however she still seems to struggle with being able to choose an answer once she has narrowed it down to two options. Biology is by far the strongest subject. She seems to be able to identify information well, but then loses confidence when it comes time to interpret said information. Repetition will remedy this, as well as boosting confidence. I would suggest expanding vocabulary by reading newspaper articles or anything of that nature. I always appreciate how hardworking she is, and very much enjoy our sessions. Happy studying!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Katherine in Joliet, IL
Today we focused on the math sections of the ACT. The student does well with basic fundamentals, but definitely needed some geometry refreshing, so we focused on that today. She seemed to understand it once she was told the missing piece (a formula, a hint for setting up, etc.). I can tell she is strong in the math section. I think she will definitely improve after this quick refresher. She took a practice test on her own, and did strongly in reading in science, the sections that were her weakest at the beginning of tutoring. We had been focusing on those, so now I want to go back and focus again on math and English.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by William in Joliet, IL
Today we focused on the Reading section. It's short, like science, but demands a little more care in reading the passages. We worked on time management by limiting the amount of time the student had to answer the questions to below what he would have while taking the actual ACT. This will help him later to have time to go back over his questions when we give him the time back.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Abrar in Joliet, IL
Today we focused primarily on the student's Mathematics Section from her second diagnostic test. She struggled with word problems, functions, and geometry. This may also be attributed to the fact that she did not use a calculator while completing the section. Regardless, she was instructed on how to answer the majority of the questions she struggled with on her own without the aid of a calculator. During the session, she demonstrated a clear ability to recall necessary formulas.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Aaron in Joliet, IL
Today we got started on the science section. Since we only have 3 weeks together, I felt that would be the best use of our time. We began with an exposure to the material, taking a diagnostic test together. Next week we will review the test and begin learning some strategies to take on the science section.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Adrianne in Joliet, IL
Today we had a very productive session! We did three science passages, one reading passage, and six of the most difficult math questions. The student's science and reading comprehension skills have really improved. He annotates the science graphs and takes notes on the reading passages. He also pre-reads the questions on the reading passages, looking for questions with specific line or paragraph references, then marks those on the passage or in his notes. He answers those questions while reading, which often eliminates nearly half of the ten questions per passage. He is a math whiz -- I am very confident he will score highest on the math section! Tomorrow we will cover English and another reading passage.
