Today we reviewed ACT Math. Finished a practice section from the previous session. Went over answers and explanations and necessary concepts like sum of arithmetic sequence and finding the length of an arc of a circle. I advised the student to know the formulas exactly and gave him an ACT math summary sheet to study before the test. We reviewed ACT Reading and did a whole practice section under timed conditions. We also discussed possible strategies if he ran out of time. We went over answers and explanations and necessary skills like skimming with the more specific word. We also reviewed ACT Science and did most of two practice passages. We went over answers and explanations and necessary skills like key locators. Assigned: practice test and study math summary sheet. Also, go further in other prep books if he has time.

Today we reviewed an ACT test that the student took for homework. On the science section, the student struggles with integrating information from different sources within the passage. Additionally, she sometimes has issues discerning what information is important within the text. We worked on strategies to quickly identify and mark important information. We then reviewed the math section. Her errors are mostly caused by the time constraint. She sometimes gets overwhelmed by questions and cannot find an answer since she feels that she needs to rush. Otherwise, her math errors are caused by small mistakes. To combat this, we practiced breaking down problems into smaller pieces to make them easier to solve. Afterwards, we reviewed the writing section that she had completed. Her writing is improving; however, she still needs to add more examples to her response. For homework, I asked her to complete another practice ACT.

Today we reviewed homework from last session (systems of equations and some like term problems). Then we went into a review of trigonometry. We began by looking at some of the trig. identities. These were a little tricky at first, but the student seemed to get them by the end. We then went into a review of the unit circle. This was tricky as the student had not really learned it before. But by the end of the session she had improved a lot, and she kept a great attitude throughout! She'll definitely have a leg up on her classmates when her class covers it during the school year. I will follow up with some trig practice problems.
