Hi my name is Kelsey and I'm excited to work with you! I'm a college student at Stony Brook University pursing a degree in Psychology and Public Health, I'm also working on my associates degree in Biology. I graduated high school in 2017 and was a member of the National Honors Society and the World Language Honors Society. I look forward to working with you.

I first started tutoring others while in high school. I casually tutored some of my friends and peers who needed help in mutual classes, such as AP Calculus, AP Stats, and AP Physics. I became more involved with formal tutoring as a member of National Honor Society. I was active in tutoring both peers in my own age group, as well as those younger than me in subjects like Calculus and Physics. After I went to college, I went back to informally tutoring some of my friends in classes that we were taking together or that I had already taken. Some of these classes included general chemistry and some organic chemistry, as well as calculus and statics and dynamics in biological systems. At my university, I am getting back into formal tutoring by becoming a teaching assistant for a biology lab/lecture that I took in the past and did well in. I have always enjoyed trying to help others understand subjects that are more difficult to grasp. I believe I have a good understanding of effective teaching methods. I believe that the best ways to learn material are through practicing problems, through making sure each component of a problem is understood, and through methods such as mnemonic devices.I am currently an undergrad at Stony Brook University. I am a Biomedical Engineering major on a cellular and molecular track. When I am not in school and have free time, I enjoy fishing, playing and watching hockey, and catching up and spending time with friends.
I earned my PhD in physics (New York University) and work in nanotechnology research and development. I worked as a teaching assistant throughout my graduate school years (which there were seven of!), also taking on a number of private tutoring students during that time. My teaching experience has been in physics and in several areas of mathematics, from algebra through calculus. I've also tutored my own children successfully through math and physics over the years.I enjoy teaching these subjects because students can be helped to excel in them by learning to think in a quantitative way. This skill is important for life in our technological society. The best way to teach goes beyond "picking the right formula to use." Mastery of this type of subject matter comes from being able to ask "what is it I'm trying to accomplish by asking this question? What is the item - that can be quantified - that I need to extract from the problem material at hand?" Then the formula becomes a tool to aid in turning the data into a solution.
Tutoring, in my opinion, is a collaborative process between student and tutor that aims to not only relay information but also helps in building free-flowing and independent learning skills in the student. In my eight years or so of tutoring, I have seen that even a tutor can grow with the student in the process. This is because relaying information is, of course, a two way street and in that process the student learns the information that he/she wants to and the tutor finds out how best to incorporate information into the tutoring sessions. As a tutor I try to be aware, first and foremost, that different students have different learning styles and needs. What is more important is to try to make tutoring sessions as lively as possible in order to keep the student interested in the subject matter.I do not just treat tutoring as a form of employment, but it is something I love to do. It is my way of giving back to the community what I have received from it. With that said, I vow to share my knowledge and influence my students as positively as I can.
Yiyang is a young scientist specializing in genetics and genomic studies. She holds both a M.D. and a Ph.D. degree. She has a passion to use her knowledge and skills to help younger generations to learn and grow. Yiyang tutors biology-related subjects at all levels from high school to graduate school.
I am an experienced math tutor and have tutored all math levels from pre-algebra to multivariable calculus/differential equations. I served as the mathematics tutor for my undergraduate university's college of engineering where I worked with college students on achieving success in their courses. My teaching philosophy is that anyone can learn and achieve mastery in math, we just have to figure out what the best way to break down concepts is and simplify steps as much as possible. There are many, many ways to approach math problems, the trick is finding the one that makes to most sense to each individual. I hold a double bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Stony Brook University and am working on my PhD in Economics.
I am a junior at Stony Brook University, majoring in Applied Math and Statistics. I tutor in practically any form of math, whether it is algebra, calculus, statistics, or standardized test prep in math. I love helping people in any way I can, and teaching math is something I thoroughly enjoy doing. I like to share my knowledge and share my passion of mathematics to others through tutoring. While everyone else may not feel the same way as I do about math, my goal is mainly to help others learn and understand mathematics at any level, and make them feel confident in their abilities to do math. Outside of my passion for math, I love to listen and make music. I am a big fan of playing and watching sports, especially basketball.
I'm a Ph.D. candidate in the Computer Science department at Stony Brook University. I have got strong background and substantial teaching experience in Computer Science and Mathematics. I have my masters in Occupational Therapy and graduated from NYU. I also have my Bachelors of Art in Psychology and graduated from Stony Brook University. I have been working with students with special needs for 9 years. I primarily work with fine motor skills including handwriting and formation of letters. I collaborate with teachers and will work with them in the classroom and follow the common core standards. I also communicate with parents and will work on meeting the goals of the student. If you decide to work with me, I promise to be flexible, patient, and hardworking.
I have four years of full-time classroom teaching experience, but many more as a tutor. I started tutoring when I was in the sixth grade, and I now work with students from grades six through college. I also teach SAT and ACT preparation courses. While my favorite subject to teach is Social Studies, my Math and English students have gone on to great success as well. I know that every student has a unique learning style and success is often a matter of finding the right motivation. When I'm not teaching, my favorite thing to do is read to my own children.
I have been tutoring since 2011 when I retired from developmental optometry, a specialty in which I saw the same children and adults on a weekly basis, using many of the same concepts that are used in tutoring. I have always enjoyed math which is necessary to understand optics and optometry and now I am pleased to watch my students' "aha" moments when they discover the joy of math. The National Tutoring Association has certified me as a tutor and an academic coach.
I love tutoring and helping students facing any difficulties in Math and Statistics. I served as a teaching assistant for basic Mathematics and Statistics courses when I was completing my Masters degree at Stony Brook University. I received my Bachelors degree from Columbia University, where I also served as a tutor. I have also tutored countless number of CUNY students studying to pass the CUNY Assessment test in Math. Each student is unique, and I understand that the techniques and style I use is tailored directly towards the needs of the student. I am a very good listener, and I try my best to make my students very comfortable at all times. My main objective is to provide the best service available to my students, and the student is always my number one priority.
