I am a special education teacher in Bronx, NY. I teach 10-12 graders in all core subjects. I know that every person has their own unique talents. It is up to me to learn what your strengths are so that we can maximize them while hiding any shortcomings.

Hi, my name is Sunny Wong and I am a graduate student currently attending NYU 's Tandon School of Engineering. I have a background in chemistry, biology and mathematics.
My name is Selin Yalcin and I am thrilled to be your Tutor. I am an enthusiastic and motivated individual who loves to help teach students in grades K-12 while acting as a coach to advise and maximize the students' learning gains and build their self-confidence. I am a graduate of Stony Brook University with a bachelor's degree in both Biology and Human Evolutionary Biology and am currently a student in Boston University's Master's Anatomy Program with a teaching module. I graduated with honors distinction and also worked as a tutor in a learning center. I am driven but also compassionate toward students. As a result of my work in the learning center, I am used to effectively communicating with a student to identify any gaps in their skill or knowledge and how to resolve issues. I am able to teach a variety of STEM subjects such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Living Environment, Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy. I am also experienced in teaching the math portion of both the SAT and ACT, one of my former students scored a 1520 on their SAT.
After working as a high school English teacher in New York for ten years, I came to Austin to pursue a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction at UT.Working with students on an individual basis is a wonderful opportunity for me to craft a personalized approach to subject matter and techniques. I especially enjoy working with students on their writing, whether personal essays or application statements that they have time to edit and revise, or on-demand writing tasks that appear on tests like the SAT or the AP Exam.
I have recently completed my final semester at Adelphi University, and I have received my Master's Degree in Literacy from Birth-Grade 12. Prior to attending Adelphi, I completed my Bachelor's Degree at Stony Brook University; graduating with a double major in English (Education) and Philosophy, and a minor in Political Science. I have my New York State Provisional English Teacher Certification for Grades 7-12 and Literacy Birth-Grade 12.During my studies for my undergraduate degree, I had a very positive learning experience student teaching both middle school and high school students in the Bayport-Bluepoint School District. I taught English in three seventh grade inclusion classes, and three tenth grade inclusion classes. I was successfully able to practice and understand how to differentiate instruction and scaffold my lessons. By becoming familiar with the different ability levels within the classrooms, I was able to meet the individual learning needs of my students, as well as tune in to their specific learning styles. I used this information to inform how I approached cooperative learning and assessments. This experience prepared me to embark on a career as a teacher by guiding my lesson planning, and helping me incorporate the NYS Common Core Standards into the lessons I taught.I am currently an English Substitute at Eastport-South Manor Junior-Senior High School. I teach mainly English classes from grades 7-12. This teaching experience is valuable, because I work closely with teachers and get to know the students very well. I have learned how to adapt to any classroom and execute any lessons that teachers have left for me to teach. Through my experience substitute teaching, I have learned a lot about myself as a teacher, and have strengthened my classroom management skills. Along with substitute teaching in this school district, I have also completed two leave replacement positions in my building. The first was a two-month leave replacement for a high school AIS English teacher in the spring of 2014. The second leave replacement also lasted two months, and it was for a middle school Wilson reading specialist in the fall of 2014. Both of these leave replacements helped me grow as an educator by teaching me how to plan and structure lessons and adapt my teaching to meet my student's needs. I hope to have my own English classroom one day, or even work as a reading specialist. My goal as an educator is to help students become independent and active learners, while engaging students in higher-level thinking skills.
Education is the key to discovering the innovation of the future. History shows the great strides made in accumulating knowledge due to the work of legendary scholars and renowned civilizations. To put it simply, the limits of society can only be expanded by the level of sophistication of the people living in it. We live in an age of phenomenal growth in the sciences, mathematics, technology, arts etc. and the future of society will be dependent on how we utilize that knowledge.I attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City before earning a Bachelor's of Science in Health Sciences at Stony Brook University with a concentration in Public Health. My college career was focused on the Pre-Med track and involved many courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In addition, I made sure to increase the variety of my course load by taking classes in Political Science and the social sciences. Since graduating from college, I have worked in a medical office and am in the process of completing my medical degree at the American University of Antigua. I am currently completing my clinical rotations and look to successfully acquire my degree next year.I have tutored officially and unofficially during my academic career. While in college, I was the tutor for my Chemistry 129 class, helping students to understand the fundamental nature of atomic bonds and interactions involved in chemical reactions. My tutoring involved leading group sessions during and after lecture as well as individual office hour appointments during the week. Learning revolved around guidance for weekly quizzes as well. My Bio 358 course covered an extensive array of topics from molecular biology, chemistry, and the social sciences and the interactions between them. Tutoring with students was accomplished by initiating and moderating discussions on online forums and well as group sessions for the concepts covered in lecture. I also was involved in tutoring fellow students for classes in an unofficial manner by leading exam review sessions as well as helping in write up of lab reports and essays. My favorite subjects to tutor are Biology, Chemistry, History, Political Science, and Mathematics. I view learning to be a lifelong pursuit and that which must be varied and broad in scope. True growth through studying many different disciplines can change the way we view the world and keep a balance of how we live in it. Its the reason I feel comfortable tutoring in these subjects because it helps me learn new things and remember the ones I've forgotten. My tutoring style focuses on devising specific plans for each student based on their knowledge level. In addition, developing a strong relationship with the student can help overcome any obstacles that are bound to occur and maintain a steady progression to fulfilling the goals of the student.I firmly believe that being a well rounded individual is the best way to approach the different obstacles and struggles in life and to constantly improve my limits. Aside from my tutoring activities, I like to involve myself in community and leadership-development activities. During my time at college and my medical school career, I have been involved in many clubs and organizations. I was also a resident assistant at Stony Brook University as well as the Vice-President/Treasurer of an anti-tobacco club on campus which were both fulfilling positions to hold. My interests also include playing sports such as basketball and football. I helped manage multiple teams for my college's intramural competitions as well as running a basketball club during my first two years of medical school.
Hello everyone! My name is Morgan Diep, and I am a recent graduate of Stony Brook University. I graduated cum laude with a Health Science B.S. and two minors: one in Writing and Rhetoric and one in Biology. During my undergraduate career, I served as Editor-in-Chief of a mental health organization and a Writing Center tutor. I specialize in assisting with personal statements, particularly those crafted for graduate programs in healthcare.
As a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, I have years of experiences teaching undergraduates in the class room and conducting research in the laboratory. While obtaining my Ph.D. I became well versed in breaking down the complex subject material found in biology courses and presenting it to my students in a clear and understandable manner. Biology is more a story than memorizing a long list of facts, and as a Biology "story teller", my students retain more information than they ever did before. While at Stony Brook University, I worked as an assistant teaching new high school AP Biology teachers from the Tri-State area. Here I re-visited the high school curriculum, and soon after broadened my teaching experiences in various high school level subjects, such as math and history. The sciences, like all subjects, require strong study skills. As a teacher/tutor, I focus on instilling proper note-taking and study habits. While my students have me as a instructor now, they will need the proper educational foundation and skills to succeed as they progress in their academic careers. And it is my desire to guide them to that point.
I, Dylan Trott, am a hardworking Mechanical Engineering student at Stony Brook University that understands the importance of helping others. Hello prospective students! My name is Naomi and I am currently a rising 4th-year medical student. I have my B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience, and an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences. I have experience tutoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I spent a year teaching math and science for a non-profit organization so I have experience with younger age groups as well. I have a great love for the sciences and look forward to working with you.
I graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor's degree in Physics through the Honors College program. I've also taught AP Physics and general science at Upper Room Christian School for one year. In my experience, I've heard many students say they can't or they're too "stupid" to do something. I believe that no student is unintelligent or incapable. Everyone is more than able, through some effort and a little bit of help, to achieve any goal in life, academic or otherwise. My goal is to help people achieve and realize the potential that lies inside of them.In addition to Science and Math, I also have an interest in music (guitar) and English and am available to tutor in those subjects as well.
I began teaching at the college level nearly ten years ago, and have taught courses in writing, literature, philosophy, and history. I have taught a wide diversity of students in a variety of contexts at several different institutions, including a one-an-a-half year tenure in Senegal working with West African students. As a professor, I have always highly valued opportunities to work with students on a one-on-one basis, and this experience led me to seek out work as a tutor. As a tutor I am most passionate about teaching writing, critical thinking, history and philosophy.I am a currently a doctoral student in the Philosophy Department at Stony Brook University, presently in the dissertation writing phase of the program. I have a MA in Art History and Theory from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art.When beginning to work with a student no matter the level of the student or the subject matter to be covered I always make sure that the student and I are on the same page. This means, in the first place, that I understand exactly what the students goal is and what she or he wants and needs from me. It also means that the student understands how I plan to facilitate the achievement of her or his goal. I am also sure to learn from the student what she or he feels to be their greatest weakness or source of difficulty in the pursuit of their goal. Establishing all of these things at the outset allows me to devise the most effective lessons and the ensures that the tutoring process is as effective and efficient as possible.
