Tutoring review by Edward in Jenkintown, PA
The student and I continued reviewing for her exam. We reviewed calculating area under the curve by hand (LRAM, RRAM, etc.). We also did this for irregular intervals using tabular data. We then reviewed the fundamentals of calculus: evaluating definite and indefinite integrals. The student is proficient at integrating and seeing ways to rearrange functions.

We worked through problems finding the area and length of polar curves. The student had formulas and examples to follow, but was not sure how they worked. So we talked about that and worked through the problems without much trouble.

The student worked on her practice sheets prior to this session. While there were a few errors here and there, either with miscalculations or not counting the decimal places correctly, overall, she did very well. I did provide her with more similar practice problems for her to work on until our next session as well as some more problems for dividing mixed numbers to solidify that operation in her mind as well. And I also drilled her on her multiplication tables.

First, we went over the student's homework assignment on fraction arithmetic. We reviewed converting mixed fractions to their improper form. Then we tried different strategies of division and multiplication. I showed her a new way to simplify before computing. After going through her homework and review packet, we did a couple of examples of converting datasets to boxplots-- going over mean, median, mode, quartiles, range, and such.

We reviewed what we learned last time, and also I quizzed the student. She did really well. There were a few mistakes, but we easily corrected them. We also learned two pages of new material, which I will be testing her on at our next meeting.

Tutoring review by Lynne in Jenkintown, PA
The student was working on operations with complex numbers and powers of "i." She also had questions regarding the discriminant and how that determines what type of roots you have to your quadratic equation. Solving quadratic equations by square root, factoring, and the quadratic formula and graphing complex numbers on a grid were also discussed. In addition, she had a take home quiz, which she did very well on. Even though the concept of complex numbers was brand new for her, she had a good handle on the material.
