How can Phonics tutoring help you succeed?

Understanding phonics is a critical part of the education for every child. Being able to understand how to correlate sounds with words is crucial for their development, and forming good and effective studying habits early on is important. Many children struggle with learning how to read, but this is understandable. Learning how to understand phonics requires a lot of personal attention for a child, and most classrooms simply may not give each student this individual care. Oftentimes having a personal instructor may do volumes for alleviating the challenges that come with learning phonics, and they may give the students the individual care they require for understanding the subject.

Varsity Tutors may help you find an experienced phonics tutor in Philadelphia, PA, who may try to help your child attain success by creating a study plan that is focused on them. This may allow your child to excel in their class, test, or PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) exam.

Phonics Tutoring review by Robin in Philadelphia, PA
In light of the student's upcoming testing, her mom and I had a chat with her about how far she has come and how focused she needs to remain through the home-stretch. I also told her that we want to show her teachers how hard she has been working this summer. She seemed to take it to heart and put in a good effort today! I modeled fluency by reading a book to her. She read another book to me and was very accurate. She does still substitute b/d, however. We did some additional work with this book, including a word match activity and some sentence building. She did great! We played some sight word games with new words today and she did okay, continuing to attempt to sound out all of her sight words.

We started with the student's homework. It was an activity where she read and wrote down words that began with the letter r. Then we did sight words. She graduated two words. We read a list of short i words. We did phonic drills. I tried adding some blends to the drills and she did okay. She could choose the correct letters in a word. She worked very hard this session.

The student and I focused on the "ch" and "th" sounds. She can read words with these sounds, but she still needs practice spelling them. We will continue working on these sounds.

Phonics Tutoring review by Melissa in Philadelphia, PA
The student and I started with his HFW. We then finished two books we had begun last week. I can observe his improvement in reading: he is reading more fluidly and is able to sound out words using word families instead of only individual symbols. We then started on a new book that is at level 27 which is well about his 10-12 reading level, but he powered through. We will continue reading this book at tomorrow's session.

Phonics Tutoring review by Sushmita in Philadelphia, PA
Explicit instruction of the short a sound. The student was able to identify the sound that correlates with the letter, name the letter, and write the letter. We played phonemic awareness games to help her recognize the sound in a word (ex: cat vs. cot...at vs. ut) She was successful about 70% of the time but struggled with placement of the sound (when I switched from medial vowel to initial sound). We need more practice but these are new skills so she'll need time.
