Hello! I am Alyssa Sergas and I am a recent graduate of West Chester University. I am certified to teach in an Early Childhood or Special Education setting. I come from a family of five and I have a dog named Murphy. Through my schooling and various field experiences I have learned many skills that have helped me to improve my teaching and tutoring skills. I have experience working with preschool aged, elementary aged, and special needs children. I am comfortable working with various age groups and tutoring in all elementary subjects. During my student teaching I tutored several students in the areas of reading and math before and after school hours. I found this to be a very enjoyable experience and I loved being able to work one-on-one with the students. Additionally, last year I tutored a first grader in reading and phonics.
I believe that it is important to really get to know my student so that I can better teach them. I try to learn their interest and hobbies so that I can use them during a lesson. I like to try to make a personal connection with each of my students and really tailor what they are learning to them so that they are able to relate to the material. I believe that students learn best by doing and try to incorporate as much hands on learning as I possibly can.
I currently work at a preschool as a one year old teacher and I really enjoy the time that I spend there. When I am not working I enjoy exercising, walking my dog, reading, and cooking new recipes that I find on pinterest. I also love to play and watch sports, such as soccer, baseball, and volleyball.
