The student and I spent the evening reviewing various topics that she should except during her final exam next month. Some of the topics we covered were fractional conversions into decimals and percentages, as well as proportions and working with equations. There was a little brush up required, but overall, the student did very well.

Tutoring review by Melissa in Conshohocken, PA
We spent pretty much the entire time going over the student's final draft for "The Necklace." I am fairly impressed with his writing level at this point. His reading comprehension is good as well. He is able to tell me exactly what the story was about. He just needs to focus a bit more on the specific details. I impressed upon him the importance of keeping essays interesting--something that can be a challenging concept for kids his age. I plan on sending a couple of resources his way, and I will provide supplemental reading material to him in the future to work on his writing further. Just from glancing at his syllabus, the class appears to move pretty slowly. He said he felt pretty good about the essay by the end of the session. He has a pretty good knowledge of the mechanics of writing. I plan on expanding that knowledge and working more on the intricacies and technicalities of writing. I think the essay sounds a lot better than the original. He was very polite throughout the entire session.

Tutoring review by Olivia in Conshohocken, PA
Today, we reviewed two class periods worth of information. The first was based on phylogenetic trees. We discussed the learning objectives from the PowerPoint and filled out an extra practice worksheet. By the end of the session, she had a good grasp on how they worked and we discussed how to read them easily no matter what species it covers. Then we moved on to human evolution, divergence and the out of Africa theory. She has a test coming up next Thursday, so we will meet again early next week to review.

During this session, we worked through an extra credit packet to review for the student's test. We did more practice with substitution and elimination to solve systems of equations. She understood this very well and we completed most of the packet.
