A great tutor customizes instruction for the particular needs of the student. One must quickly diagnose the main areas the student needs to improve, so as not to waste time. A great tutor can see outside the box and be flexible enough to explain the same concept in a variety of ways, depending on the needs of the student. A tutor must be more personable with the student than a classroom teacher, who to a certain degree, must hide behind a teaching persona. Lastly, in addition to speaking with the utmost clarity, a great tutor must have excellent listening skills.
