How can a tutor assist you in conquering Reading?

Knowing how to read is often taken for granted in our everyday society. It allows us to not only make sense of basic signs and instructions, but it also allows one to analyze texts and documents for their significant meanings. Having a proper reading education may set students ahead for the rest of their academic careers, and it is important that they are able to develop professional studying and learning skills at an early age. A lot of the time students aren't able to get the educational care and attention that they need from a classroom teacher (that instructor is usually bogged down helping another 20 students), and having a private tutor may be critical to allowing a student to get the educational edge on their classmates. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors may connect you with tutors in Philadelphia, PA, who are skilled at helping students prepare for reading. Your child may get the boost in learning how to read that they need, and they may learn in a way that best fits them.

Varsity Tutors may find you a tutor in Philadelphia who may take all of your child's reading goals into account to create an individualized study plan just for them. Your child's tutor is able to work with them one-on-one, and is able to assess just what parts of reading they're struggling with. This enables your child's tutor to focus lessons around those trouble areas, making the sessions as productive and efficient as possible. Your child's tutor also understands the joys that come with reading and may potentially help to make sure that your child is able to find personal enjoyment and reward from the tutorials. This may mean that your child gets to read a book about one of their interests or even do homework problems that relate to their daily life. Your child's tutor is determined to make their lessons educational and fun at the same time. Allow your child to become fully prepared for any class, test, or the PSSA (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) with the help of a tutor.

Reading Tutoring review by Molly in Philadelphia, PA
The student did a great job reading today. We kept his focus well. We worked on sight words, reading the Magic Tree House, and reading out of the comprehension workbook. We also started a list of words with two vowels in the middle (ie. dream, cream, read, book), to help him see how two vowels may change the word in certain ways (ie bed vs. bead). We will continue to work on that next week.

Reading Tutoring review by Molly in Philadelphia, PA
The student and I got to know each other and talked about some of the issues she feels she has with reading. She shared her reading preferences: she loves the book Charlotte's Web, she prefers books with a female main character, and she likes books with animal characters or about animals. After this, we read some Shel Silverstein books, and also made progress in one of her own books called "Ivy and Bean." While working with her I noticed that she has a really good vocabulary -- even words that she stumbled over, she was able to tell me their meaning afterwards. I found that if I gave her a small piece of paper to put under each line of text while she was reading, she would do better.

The student and I worked on Lesson 12 of the phonics program where she read a story out loud and answered questions on a white board. She also read from a list of words with the "e", "ee", and "ea" sound blends. Lastly, we worked on a math sheet together with multiplication facts to solve a puzzle.
