Math Tutoring review by Michael in Chino Hills, CA
The student had already gone over the sections in the textbook but wanted to review concepts. We reviewed how to estimate percentages by rounding the percentage to 10% or 50% (easy percentages). We then practiced setting up equations based on identifying the parts and the base of the percentage problem. We also reviewed adding/subtracting/multiplying mixed numbers (fractions). We also tackled one of his critical thinking problems (finding out how many peaches/oranges/apples were bought based on the total amount paid) by setting it up algebraically and through Excel.

Math Tutoring review by Benjamin in Chino Hills, CA
Student A did multiplication homework to prepare for a test. She showed me multiple methods for multiplying. She should look over the homework questions she did that didn't match her answer key. Student B did multiplication homework. I had him check all his answers and show his work, to get him used to showing his work. He had some trouble with mixed number factors on variables, so I made up a few practice problems for him and he did them.

Math Tutoring review by Derek in Chino Hills, CA
I noticed the student's small NFL figurines, so I talked about football-related math for the hour. Problems I asked included yards between two points on the field, total scores after certain amounts of touchdowns/field goals, and unit conversions between yards, feet, and inches.

Math Tutoring review by Seneca in Chino Hills, CA
The student and I worked on converting fractions to decimals and percents, and on comparing fractions. She has good strategies for comparing. We also spent time solving 2-step equations. Although she can write a function from a function table or a graph, she struggles to solve for x in 2-step equations. We practiced this, and she improved substantially. She is a quick learner, and very smart.

Math Tutoring review by Landon in Chino Hills, CA
The student has a test tomorrow so we tried a little bit different strategy tonight. I wrote slightly different test problems based on his test review and told him he was correct or what needed correcting after each problem he did. The pace was very good, he did a lot of problems, and we worked straight through the session. He did a good job overall, knows the main rules of triangles and angles, and only had problems with a couple of problems. We worked through those until he made improvements.

Math Tutoring review by John in Chino Hills, CA
The student will take a test on chapter 4, which begins with factoring quadratic equations, runs through completing the square to form the vertex form of the parabola formula, using the quadratic formula to find the zeros, how to interpret the discriminant, how to work with complex numbers, and ends with how systems of quadratic equations are solved and graphed. He did well on each part. He did very well with completing the square and factoring, and taking on some of the hardest problems. He should do great.
