Session Summaries by Microbiology Tutors

Microbiology Tutoring review by Rainier in Chino Hills, CA
We worked on practice AP test questions dealing with inclines, energy conservation, speed versus time graphs, Atwood machine, waves, inverse square law, using Newton's laws with frictional forces, effects of changing masses, charges and distances on forces. She struggled the most with the more complicated and trickier problems. Her attitude towards the material was great throughout the entire session as always. She got a 97 on her last physics test.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Reina in Chino Hills, CA
We went over questions regarding bonding, and also a free response question on thermodynamics. She seems to be good on her chemistry, but application of it is not as strong. She needs to be vigilant about reading and following directions in order for her score on her exam to reflect her knowledge. She is also a bit rusty on her chemistry, so we reviewed electron structure, gases, limiting reactant, and periodic trends. She knows her chemistry; her biggest issue will come from knowing how to apply the knowledge to questions asked during the exam. This has been discussed over the course of our sessions, but was particularly emphasized today. She was instructed to constantly look over the questions/prompts/details provided, and using those as guides to answering the questions, even when she gets confused.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Zacharia in Chino Hills, CA
The student reported concerns about her voltaic cell quiz. I realized that the errors she was making on the quiz stemmed from the fundamentals of redox reactions, so we started from the basics and worked our way through her review. I reviewed further how to assign oxidation states and suggested that she continue to review the rules in order on her own. We were able to begin to review voltaic cells, but I stressed to her that she should continue to practice.

The student and I are preparing for the upcoming AP test. We worked through a couple of problems involving circular motion, conservation of momentum, and oscillations. We analyzed each topic thoroughly to make sure the student understands concepts and can answer different types of questions on the AP test. We will continue our session tomorrow to address any issues.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Kirollos in Chino Hills, CA
In this session, we went over more free response questions from past AP exams. The student understood the concepts but most of the confusion was in subtle applications of the formulas. We also went over a practice multiple-choice exam the student had just taken and went through the questions she got wrong.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Jeremy in Chino Hills, CA
We worked on a review of some of her homework problems involving circuits, focus is primarily on resistance. The student is still having a hard time understanding equivalent resistances so there is still a lot of work to be done in this area, which we will work on next time.
