SSAT Tutoring review by Krystel in Sandy, UT
We went over the math section of assessment exam. We finished geometry questions. We looked over how to find the equation and slope of the line. We looked over distance and midpoint formula. We then did two reading passages to review taking notes and underlining key ideas in a passage.

We went over the practice packet and the practice exam the student took. He got a 77/100, a ten point increase since last time. He did especially well in verbal, getting only four wrong. The math was a bit trickier. He just needs to work on his speed and pay close attention to details. I will be sending him some practice questions for while he is on break.

We went over the reading section of the SAT practice test that the students completed. They had a little trouble with a couple of the passages because they didn't know some of the historical background for what they were learning. We spent the rest of the session discussing some historical events and general information about the U.S. government.

SSAT Tutoring review by Alexander in Sandy, UT
We went over the results of her first practice SAT. She received a good score on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and an even better score on the Math section. We went over tips for taking the Reading section and I gave her some practice passages to work on. We also went over every question she got wrong in the Math section. For next time, I'd like her to go over the practice test she took and for each wrong answer she should write 1 reason why she got the question wrong and 1 thing she can do so this doesn't happen again.

We went over the SAT math (no calculator) test the student had completed before coming to the tutoring session. Again, we went over concepts that she was struggling with during the test. She was not able to complete the test on time, so we progressed to focus on learning some math tactics that would increase her speed to solve problems. We used an SAT prep book from the library to work on SAT math tactics. I assigned her a SAT math (with calculator) section to do before our next session on Tuesday. She is showing improvement in her ability to tackle word problems. By practicing math problems, she is recalling concepts covered in school that she had forgotten over the summer. Overall, I notice progress in her math skills. I have formulated a study plan to follow during future sessions that is tailored to focus on areas that require improvement.

SSAT Tutoring review by Jennifer in Sandy, UT
We went over the SAT math diagnostic test that the student completed, reviewing questions related to simplifying polynomials, inequalities, averages, etc. He mainly missed questions related to geometry because he didn't have the necessary equations. Since they'll be provided on the actual test, he doesn't need to memorize them. We'll work on refining and simplifying calculations and getting used to SAT-type questions. I'll send no-calculator and calculator math sections to review for next time.
