ISEE Tutoring review by Jean in Sandy, UT
We went over the data and problem solving section on the SAT Math, so we've covered about 60% of math. The student has made a lot of progress on the reading section as well (only missed 6 points on that section). He is on track to getting a good score. He needs to just make sure he finds time to continuously study.

We went over the different exponent problems and critical reading sections that I gave the student for homework. She struggled a bit with the algebra of combining exponents through division and addition, but I think that she understood it by the end. I asked her about the vocabulary, which I think is one of her weaknesses in understanding critical reading, but she is working on the SAT flashcards, which I believe is helpful. We went over a number of social science passages, and she was able to understand the main points of the passage well. I just think bolstering her vocabulary would improve her performance on several types of questions. She also performed well with working with algebraic expressions. We worked quite a while on fractions and different rules for when you multiply or divide different fractions and when you add and subtract. I think that she is learning a lot, but we still have a bit to go.

We went over the incorrect answers of the student's diagnostic test to see where he was struggling and to review the material. Towards the end of the session, we started working on geometry problems, specifically slope and coordinate planes. The student was very engaged and receptive to the teaching. We also went over some basic strategies and study skills. I will be emailing extra practice problems within a couple of days. He is very smart and is oftentimes aware of his mistakes. With some more practice and test taking strategies, he will be ready to ace this exam.

We went over the logical reasoning portion of the test. The student tried working through problems in his head, so we practiced drawing diagrams and writing down key pieces of information so that he doesn't have to overwork himself for this section. He did a great job once he started drawing out different diagrams. We are going to work on the reading comprehension section next time.

ISEE Tutoring review by Dale in Sandy, UT
We went over the math and grammar sections of a practice test. We talked about her strategy on the grammar section. The student will continue to use her excellent ear for comma placement. We worked on pacing. She will divide the section up into 11 question sections and look at the time at the end of each block to see how her time is working. On the math section, she needed to understand that she did not need to complete the questions. It is ok to spend more time on the easier questions and take guesses at the hard ones. She does not have any knowledge gaps in math.
