I hold a PhD in Public Policy and Administration (Walden University), an MS in Organizational Leadership (Cairn University), and a BA in Psychology (Bates College). I tutor students from early childhood education through graduate study and professional adult across social sciences, leadership, research methods, and academic writing, including dissertation development. My expertise includes reading comprehension (close reading, inferential analysis, synthesis) and writing across genres (analytical, research, argumentative), as well as public speaking and dissertation editing/support. I emphasize academic voice, argumentation, and the full writing process, while integrating executive functioning strategies such as organization, time management, and task initiation. I have experience supporting students with Autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities using differentiated, student-centered approaches. I have spent three years teaching students from varying ages math, science and English. My favorite subjects are English and science. I am currently majoring in Biology in Bates College, and plan to help and tutor more students.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bates College with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Spanish. While in college, I worked as a Biology and Chemistry teaching assistant with my peers and as a substitute teacher in the public schools in my town. I now work as a Research Associate at the Broad Institute, a genomics research institution, where I develop CRISPR technology. I am attending medical school in August. In my free time I love running, cooking, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. My philosophy as a tutor is to inspire passion in my students. Cultivating a genuine interest in the subject is essential to lifelong learning. Science and math are all around us, and they are accessible subjects if we put them in the context of the everyday. I have a background in journalism, teaching, curriculum development, personal finance, web publishing, and digital marketing. My biggest strengths are in reading, writing, and editing. I have a master's degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor's degree in history from Bates College. I have a certificate in editing from the University of Washington (Seattle) and am a certified financial education instructor. Currently I am studying to become a certified financial literacy professional. I generally like to tutor in reading and writing, though I also like to teach math for elementary and middle school students. I love to edit written work, so I also like to help students out with college application essays. I've taught students from elementary school all the way to college, and I've learned patience is a required skill for teaching. I always want to help students who want to learn but also understand every student learns at a different pace. I always try to understand students' learning styles and their personality to figure out the best personalized approach for the student.

Teaching, for me, is one of the best ways I know to give back to the world. It is through education that our eyes are opened, curiosity ignited, and our minds pushed farther than we imagined possible. I firmly believe in the capacity of every person to grow and learn. I also see and value the fact that we all have multiple intelligences and learning styles. What works for one person may not work for another. Also, we all have our own special blend of talents and abilities that can be honed and channeled while learning something new. I graduated from Bates College in 2015 with a double major in Mathematics and Sociology. I spent 3 years tutoring various levels of Math in college all the way up to Multi-variable Calculus and Linear Algebra. I also tutored a few local high school students while I was in college. In high school, I completed AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics (I got a 5 and a 4 respectively). Additionally, I received a near perfect score on the Math section of my SATs. I have always loved tutoring and helping my students discover that they can be great at Math!

I have made a passion out of helping students get into their top-choice schools since I received a BA from Bates College in 2009. I began my teaching career with The Princeton Review and have helped literally hundreds of students fulfill their potentials in a relaxed, fun environment. My students for the SAT have routinely seen their scores go up enormously not only on practice exams but also on the days of the actual test. My students for the PSAT, SSAT, SAT Subject Test in Literature, AP Literature Exam, and AP Language Exam have also seen huge improvements in terms of their test-day performances. Additionally, I have helped numerous teenagers tackle the dreaded essay for college, guiding them as they illustrate their character, personality, and aspirations. Outside of teaching, I am writing a novel and take classes through The Writers Studio in Manhattan. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer and tennis, following current events, and exploring New York City.

As a current high school Mandarin teacher with an MA in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from Middlebury College, Chinese studies is my greatest passion in life. Having lived in Shanghai for a number of years, I'm able to combine my extensive pedagogical training with real life experiences to transport my students abroad. Whatever your level, I'm happy to work on at any pace on any skill my student wishes: tones, writing, character retention, you name it! We can do our lesson entirely in Mandarin or only speaking Mandarin when you wish. I'm here to make you feel welcomed and confident speaking a new language.

I just finished up a graduate program and moved to Boston, where I am currently interning and pondering the next step in my career. I am a self-proclaimed "audio nerd" and do freelance work within sound design and audio production. I really enjoy the intricacies of language and would be very interested in delving into a graduate/doctorate program in German Studies eventually, as I have a BA in German from Bates College. Right now, I am studying for the GRE and applying to other grad programs in that area.I have enjoyed working with and mentoring children and young adults all of my life. Throughout high school and college I spent my summers working at summer camps, with children aged 6-16. Most recently I worked at AYF Merrowvista in the summer of 2014, where I led teenagers on adventure trips throughout New England. I particularly enjoy mentoring and watching children grow into their identities as they grow up and would really relish the opportunity to help your child not only develop their skills as a student but grow into a personable and confident young adult.

I am a chemistry student at Bates college. I have experience tutoring students from ages 4 up to undergraduate student. I primarily tutor maths and sciences. I also have a lot of experience with standardized testing.
