Session Summaries by Physics Tutors

Physics Tutoring review by Taylor in Sandy, UT
For this session, we covered everything related to Laplace transforms. We defined the transform overall, and then used it on a few simple functions to demonstrate how the Laplace transform works. We then built relationships between the transforms of several familiar functions and used them to demonstrate the various properties of the Laplace transform, to include using it for derivatives, as a linear operator, to shift functions, and in conjunction with the Heaviside function and the convolution theorem.

Physics Tutoring review by Chris in Sandy, UT
The student and I spent our session discussing the conceptual side of electric force and electric fields. We went through the first four sections of the chapter in his physics book, beginning with charge and the atomic model of charge. We talked about insulators and conductors and how they behave differently. Finally, we ended with the quantitative side by looking at the equations for electric force and the electric field and how to determine them within a general charge distribution. We ended the session by going through some conceptual problems, which he handled very effectively.

Physics Tutoring review by Daniel in Sandy, UT
I covered work energy theorem and center of mass. The student needed help with some specific work energy problems and conceptualizing kilowatt hours vs joules. I showed her the logic behind solving different types of problems and how to approach problems. She ended up understanding the concepts of how to solve the problems.
