SSAT Tutoring review by Abrar in West Valley City, UT
The student took a practice test. She struggled with averages, logic, and some geometry in the Math section. She also had some difficulty with a few new words and multiple part questions in the English and Verbal sections. Overall, her attitude improved and she seemed confident for her next test.

The students and I read through a few short stories to look at tone and inferences from the passage. We discussed both The Tell Tale Heart and The Gift of the Magi, and they did well with understanding the narrator's intentions. We then worked through some analogies, and the boys did well with those, relying on definitions they know from other subject areas as well as creating sentences based on the words given.

SSAT Tutoring review by Vera in West Valley City, UT
This was another great session with this student! He did a great job with the homework I assigned him, and then during our session today, we worked a little bit on all the sections of the test. We especially focused on practicing the timing today, so that he could get a good sense of how the timing should flow. He did a great job on all the sections, with his main issue being rushing a bit and misreading a few of the questions. He just needs to slow down and focus a little better, since overall timing isn't an issue for him, so he can afford to slow down just a bit and check his work back over at the end. I think it would be ideal for him to do another whole practice test at this point, so he can continue to work on his stamina.

SSAT Tutoring review by Bailey in West Valley City, UT
This was my first meeting with the student. I asked her if she had even taken an SSAT before and if she was familiar testing format. Since she had no previous knowledge, I spent the first bit of the session going over the break down of how the test was conducted, including the amount of questions in each section and how long she would have. She intends to take the test in December. For this first session, I wanted her to get a feel for a little bit of everything that would be on the exam. We started with reading skills. Tonight, we read an excerpt from Alcott's "Little Women." We answered questions about authorial purpose and attitude as well as discussed a few different literary devices. We moved on to look at different verbal elements. When we talked about analogies, we reviewed words that had roots or prefixes in Latin or Greek roots. We looked at analogies that changed in intensity. Finally, we touch on math, specifically patterns.

SSAT Tutoring review by Sarah Brooke in West Valley City, UT
Today I had the student do a bit from the reading section while we waited for our study room to open up. I will have her finish that section for homework for next Tuesday. I also will have her write another essay, this time in the story format. Her essay for this week needs less first person voice and more examples to be stronger. Then, we went over her verbal section. She did very well on the synonyms, and with help, figured out the analogies. We ended our session by finishing her math section together.
