Trigonometry Tutoring review by Michelle in Sandy, UT
The student did great today! We reviewed the material from the beginning half of the week and started learning about functions. She was able to pick up on the concepts extremely fast and I was able to cover a great deal of material during our session. Next week we will continue to review functions and move to more challenging concepts.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Emin in Sandy, UT
The student and I continued working on the trigonometric portion of pre-calculus which she is currently taking. We quickly engaged the activities available. At first I watched her do several world problems set in real life (e.g., finding the height of a mountain given distance from the base and angle to the top, etc.), guiding her through the first and sometimes giving reminders on the rest. Then we moved to solving trigonometric polynomials by solving for the trigonometric function by factoring and then finally solving for x by using the unit circle, which she had memorized alone, outside of tutoring hours, in a good display of diligence and willpower. After that came proving long proofs by using simplification and substitution using the trig identities, which were confusing to the student due to her dyslexia. I had her slow down, though, and go through each simplification step by step, ensuring algebraic legitimacy.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Sara in Sandy, UT
The student did well today. She is so smart and can do a lot of the work in her head, but I see that she more often gets the correct answers when she writes things down and takes her time. Since there are so many numbers involved in a homework assignment, she eventually starts to use the wrong formula/numbers, which is what I think happens when she takes her math tests. She usually starts out writing everything down, but then she stops and will just do everything in her head. This is when I see the number of correct answers going down. I really think she would benefit from slowing down. We did her math homework for the day today. Her teacher wanted to see all of her work, so she did show her work for the assignment. We then talked more about surface area and volume since that is the chapter they are on in math. We only made it through surface area again, so we will do volume on Thursday.
