Calculus Tutoring review by Alena in Sandy, UT
Today we reviewed rational functions and its graphs. We define the asymptote of the rational function then determined vertical, horizontal, and slant asymptote of a rational function given by its equation. Also, we described the ends behavior of the rational function if x approach to positive or negative infinity from a given graph. Also, we were graphing rational functions to determine asymptotes, x and y intercepts, and table of additional values. Additionally, we use long and synthetic division for determining an oblique asymptote. We discussed the fact that rational function never crosses vertical asymptotes of the rational function, but can crosses y intercept. We calculated the coordinates of the point of interception horizontal asymptote and graph of the rational function.

During this session we went over the student's exam. He was on the right track but made a lot of simple mistakes. Had the exam not been online he would have received partial credit. He needs to do more practice problems especially on chain rule. Overall this session went well.

Calculus Tutoring review by Kyaw in Sandy, UT
In this session, I helped the student with her homework problems on finding volume integral problems. She was having trouble determining the correct functions and limits for those problems, so I helped her with each one until she gained a better understanding of them. Once she understood them better, she was able to solve them correctly. Our session was productive overall.

Calculus Tutoring review by Morenike in Sandy, UT
The student scored a 98% on his last calculus test!!!! To keep the momentum going, we focused on solidifying his understanding of the new concept he's learning, anti derivation. He didn't have any trouble finding the antiderivative of a function, but he did struggle a bit with approximating the area under the curve. We worked thoroughly through finding the upper sum and lower sum using a graph and an equation. After explaining the process, he was able to accurately do approximations independently.

Calculus Tutoring review by Timothy in Sandy, UT
Today was fun with first derivative test day. The student did almost all of the math on the dry erase board with only minor help if required. I picked some tricky problems she hadn't seen before that brought up good discussion points. Her derivatives were all correct and she didn't make any errors which is something we wanted to work on. We covered understanding of the different theorems in her chapters as well. She is able to find critical points, tell you whether they are max/min or neither and more importantly why. Best session to date.
