I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, with a bachelor's degree in psychology and linguistics. Currently, I am pursuing a master's degree in speech-language pathology at Teachers College, Columbia University. In the past, I have worked as a teacher's aide in a public school classroom, a mentor to middle school girls, an instructor and tutor at the literacy education organization 826, and a summer camp counselor. I tutor a diverse range of subjects, and I find that I especially enjoy tutoring language arts, reading, and writing at all levels, from elementary school all the way up to college/grad school test prep. As a tutor, I am committed to helping students reach their full potential as learners. Throughout my years as an educator, I have seen firsthand the remarkable academic growth that can occur when tutors provide students with the individualized support that they need. I am a recent graduate of Yale University as well as of a prestigious New York City Magnet High School. I graduated with a B.A. in an interdisciplinary major focused on economics and political science (3.9 GPA and magna cum laude). I am well equipped to tutor various standardized like the SAT, PSAT, SAT IIs, GMAT, and Regents because of both my familiarity with the exams as well as my success on the exams (2330 on the SAT, 760 on the GMAT)as well as in most subject areas. I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. I am a graduate of Princeton University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature with minors Theater and Creative Writing (and won both Princeton's Creative Writing Award and its Theater Award). I was fortunate enough to have been selected by Joyce Carol Oates as one of her two advisees. Under her guidance, I wrote my first novel. Since graduation, I have been pursuing a career as a freelance theater director and writer. I began tutoring because I am passionate about education and its profound ability to change and improve lives, and I love working with children. In my own experience, having a great tutor had an undeniable impact on my learning, my performance, and my future, and I want to pass on those same opportunities. I tutor children anywhere from elementary school to high school age and also have extensive experience teaching acting and writing. Outside of tutoring, I'm busy in the New York theater scene working regularly on Broadway and Off as well as developing my own work. I am a recent graduate of Yale University and incoming first year medical student at Columbia University. Originally from the DC area, I have always had a passion for science and medicine and pursued a degree in Biology while at Yale. During the 2008-2009 academic year, I tutored science, math, English, history, and Mandarin Chinese part-time with a DC-based tutoring company. At Yale, I worked as a freshman counselor to provide academic and career advice to incoming freshmen. I have taken both SAT and MCAT test prep classes and am familiar with both tests as well as the preparation necessary to score well. My personal career goals include attending medical school to pursue either immunology/infectious diseases or psych/neurology, teaching biology at the university level, and working in public/global health with either the CDC or the WHO.

I am a current undergraduate student at Cornell University. I began tutoring 4 years ago because I am passionate about helping students become confident in their academic skills and reach their academic goals. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in violin performance at the Juilliard School. I have tutored privately and through Chegg Tutoring, Varsity Tutors, PrepExpert, and iLearn World throughout high school and college, with most of my experience being in standardized test prep and English. The most fulfilling moments that I have with my students are when I see them applying previous lessons and skills to new challenges. I believe that a good teacher not only helps a student tackle specific, formulaic kinds of questions, but also imparts the skills necessary for adapting to the diverse intellectual challenges that life presents. My goal is always for my students to leave their sessions having learned something that will be useful for years to come, not just on the next test that they are preparing for.
