My passion for teaching stems from a philosophy instilled in me by my 4th grade teacher, 'anything worth doing, is worth doing well'. My goal for educating students is to challenge them to be curious, courageous, creative, and critical thinkers in order to empower children to take charge of their own success. Learning needs to be intentional, energetic, hilarious, focused, motivating, and inspiring, which requires passionate educators, such as myself, to create environments where all of this is possible. I approach education from a whole-child perspective. A student's success is not based solely on their academic achievement, but their social/emotional development, their relationships with their peers, family, surrounding community, culture, and world. This enveloping philosophy begins with developing a student's character, heart, intellect, and creativity equally; the things that resonate from their core, so that their success is not based purely on academic standing, but who they are as a person. I love each and every one of my students and I make sure they know and feel this in the way I relate to them. Their success is directly linked to my commitment to making it so.

Prior to teaching, I tutored for 2 years and found it extremely gratifying.I have a proven track record for student achievement. One of my students achieved the highest score in her school on the Social Studies State Exam. In addition, my students improved by 30% after only 20 tutoring hours (on average, comparing pre-assessment and post-assessment scores). I have experience tutoring grades 1-8, but I really shine with elementary students.I strive to help students reach the next level; whether they are struggling to keep up, or striving to be at the head of the class. I have experience tutoring in Reading Comprehension, Writing, Grammar, Math, Science and Social Studies.I find learning fun and bring my love of learning to every session.- Lee

As a French speaker for over two decades, the language has become a subject I have learned to love. Through those years of learning and practicing (an ongoing process), the French language has exposed me to its beauty, complexity and diversity of usage. That's the reason why after earning a B.A in French Language and Civilization, I decided to make a career of it by pursing a Master's degree in French Education. Moreover, as someone who speaks five languages and learned both French and English as second languages, I am aware of the challenges of learning a new language and have the experience to teach it efficiently.

Learning the English language allowed me to see the world through a different lens, exposing me to new and exciting customs and ideas. Because I am a witness of what learning a new language can do for a person, I decided that if I wanted to teach to change someone's life, the best choice was to teach Spanish. Attempting to use the language as a conveyance method to become citizens of the world, and why not, as a tool to change their lives, as the English language did for me.

I am a graduate of CUNY Hunter College with a Bachelors in Latin and Ancient Greek, as well as a Masters in Adolescent Latin Education. I have years of experience tutoring just about every age group and level of Latin (6th grade through college), even founded an afterschool Latin tutoring program for elementary school students, and taught Middle School Latin for the DOE. I am passionate about teaching students because I found myself through Classics, first stumbling on Ancient Greek through the historian Herodotus, "The Father of History," and teaching myself the language outside of a school setting. This is how I found my love for classical languages and learning in general really. This interest extended to Latin, for which I was prepared because of the rigor of Greek. A scholarship through my school allowed me to study Greek abroad in Athens, Greece; and another scholarship in the name of the Pope's Latinist, Reginald Foster, brought me to Rome, Italy to study Classical, Medieval, Renaissance, and mostly spoken Latin through the Paideia Institute. Furthermore, I encourage students to find the beauty of Latin and Greek for their own sake, which still nonetheless echo through every modern discipline today. In this way, they will become better readers and writers, and ultimately better learners, as these classical languages shape their minds.

I was once a student learning a foreign language as well, which is English, so I know how frustrating it can be to "decipher" a sentence in a foreign language. Knowing that Chinese is much more difficult to learn than English is, I think a good strategy would be to compensate the struggles with fun activities.During my semester abroad in Taiwan where I taught local students English, I turned away from the old school memorization techniques and instead taught them through interactive activities such as in class karaoke and games. As friendly and passionate teacher as I could be, I was strict with my students and I plan to continue teaching with this character because it fosters my students' improvements. As a native speaker, I am fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and a lesser known dialect. I have recently returned from my study abroad program in Taiwan and travel in China. My visit not only enhanced my Chinese, but also introduced me to the the rapid transformation my home country is undergoing. It is truly a sight to see how traditional values remain as stronghold of the society amidst predominant development.Culture and language are essentially two interactive factors that foster one another. By understanding the culture behind a language, the students are provided a new spectrum at learning the language. With these perspectives that I hold, I hope to help my students succeed in their Chinese acquisition- to decipher the code that leads to appreciation of a foreign culture.

As an undergraduate, I also worked at a tutoring center in Winter Park, FL. At this center, I tutored students ranging from elementary to undergraduate. Although my professional and academic specialty is chemistry, I have extensive experience tutoring in a broad range of subjects, particularly test preparation (ACT/SAT) and mathematics. My skill as a tutor and passion for teaching stems from my insatiable need to learn about various subjects. As a lifelong learner, I am constantly making new connections and gaining a deeper understanding of the content and context of the material I work with. This enables me to approach a question or concept from numerous angles, not only enabling my students to retain the material but also helping them to see the broader implications of whatever they are learning. As a tutor, I aim to pique my students' interest and guide them to realize their own educational potential. I earned my BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Towson University and both my MA in TESOL and my Advanced Certificate in Administration and Supervision from Hunter College. After graduating Towson, I wanted to find a job in business, but after living in Rome, Italy, and tutoring English I felt the call to become a teacher. Even now, I hold a NYS School Building Leader license but choose not to pursue a job as principal because I love teaching too much! The relationships I build with my students while I help them achieve their success are why I love going to work every day.My experience consists of teaching and tutoring for 9 years in two NYC high schools - one very competitive, and the other with a poor inner-city population. As a result, I'm very aware of how to vary instruction based on a student's needs, skill level, background knowledge, and individual goals. In addition, I have taught and tutored a variety of courses such as ESL (beginner, intermediate, advanced), ELA, Global Studies 9 and 10, U.S. History, U.S. History Regents Prep, and SAT Critical Reading Prep.I enjoy tutoring the content of U.S. History and Global Studies because as a former high school AP student the subjects always fascinated me, and I take pleasure in fostering my students' interest in the subject as well. However, I also enjoy teaching reading comprehension and writing skills because they are applicable to not only history and English, but other subjects, too.My philosophy on tutoring is that it is a partnership; I provide the content knowledge and strategies for delivering the content in comprehensible and fun manner while the student dedicates his/her time and effort. Finally, I take great pride in my students' success, and I am their cheerleader and tireless advocate! When I'm not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy going to the gym, studying Italian and Spanish, traveling, taking salsa and bachata classes, being outdoors, meeting new people, and using Groupon to try new things - including those out of my comfort zone.I look forward to working with you!

As a former rhythmic gymnastics trainer for young girls and private tutor, I love to share my skills and knowledge in all areas of my expertise. I understand the patience that comes with explaining problems to or training a student who may have never seen the subject before or has been taught incoherently. I specifically love tutoring math and physics because I myself have witnessed teachers or professors who have unmotivated students to continue further studies in those subjects with the use of unclear and didactic teaching methods. Math and physics is not so scary! To me it was more like learning a new language. I finished my baccalaureate in physics with a math minor. I have also done very well on standardized tests, not strictly because of my analytical knowledge but mostly because of the test taking skills I have aquired. I hope to pass on these skills so students don't have to waste time retaking standardized tests and parents don't have to cover as many fees. I scored 790/800 on the math portion of the SAT on my first try! More importantly, I hope to pass on my love for math and physics, and show more students the hidden simplicity and beauty within the notoriously scary subjects.

Since then, I have gone on to become an instructor and tutor for first-year undergraduates and older adult students at my local community college, where I have helped to coach students on ways to improve their writing and research strategies for their schoolwork and other projects. While my field of study focuses primarily on English Literature, I am eager to learn more about History, Philosophy, and the many areas of science.I try to maintain a relaxed environment while working with students, treating my one-on-one sessions like friendly conversations, which I find helps to put students at their ease even in the face of approaching deadlines. That being said, my sessions can be as in-depth as needed. While I am happy to advise on grammar and spelling, I will switch the focus to important content concerns if I see fundamental issues that need to be addressed. My goal is to help students stay on task, and to ensure that their arguments in writing are supported by strong details and the appropriate use of evidence.Teaching undergraduates has given me a unique perspective as I now approach my first year teaching as a certified teacher for high school English. I have seen for myself the importance of college readiness, and I have made it a professional goal of mine to better prepare students for the rigors of academic writing later in life. When I am not reading for research or for fun, I'm a shameless nerd, and I love to talk about my latest hyperfixation in the worlds of movies, TV, anime, or video games.

I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus in Neuroscience from Hunter College in Manhattan, New York. After college I went to medical school and received an MD from SUNY Upstate in New York. My favorite subjects to tutor are neuroscience, neurophysiology (I love the brain!), biology, and anything biology related. I worked as a Teaching Assistant in college, and also served as a teaching assistant during medical school, as well as taught medical students during residency. My teaching philosophy is really to identify each individual student's learning style and try to tailor my approach to that. Everyone learns differently, so I think it's best to avoid a one size fits all approach. I have been a student for most of my life! So I have had a lot of exposure to teachers and tutors with different styles and remembered what I liked about them, what worked, and what didn't. I think the best tutors and teachers that I have had were able to communicate clearly, adapt to their students and adjust their styles, and also had a passion for their subject that was infectious. I only tutor subjects that I love. Because if I'm bored by an area or not enthusiastic, how can I expect my students to be?Outside of academics, I like to watch movies (especially sci/fi fantasy), play video games, read, walk my dog, and travel.

My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that every student brings unique strengths, perspectives, and ways of learning into the classroom. As an educator, my role is to create an environment where students feel respected, motivated, and empowered to take ownership of their learning. I strive to build a classroom community where curiosity is valued, mistakes are treated as opportunities for growth, and diverse voices are not only heard but celebrated.

I am a clinical RDN with clinical nutrition research, teaching, and tutoring experience. I am passionate about teaching and helping my students and dietetic interns to accomplish their goals. I take pride in finding new, fun, and silly, yet memorable, ways of breaking down difficult material. I value taking time with students so that they truly understand concepts, instead of just memorizing it (especially for the RD exam). Students have said they really enjoy and find it helpful when I use my clinical and research background to apply topics being learned to real-life examples.Courses I am confident in tutoring include:- RD Exam Prep- Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) I, II, and III- Macronutrient Metabolism- Micronutrient Metabolism- Foodservice Management- World Nutrition- Research Methods- Nutrition Counseling- Nutrition Assessment through the Lifecycle- Community Nutrition- Nutritional Biochemistry- Statistics 101I primarily prepare students for the RD exam but I am happy to help with any nutrition-related course/classwork and provide guidance to students aiming to match with dietetic internships as well. I can also help with resume preparation, mock interviews, and general guidance throughout the DICAS application process. My favorite course to tutor are Medical Nutrition Therapy because of my clinical and clinical nutrition research background and RD exam prep.I currently hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree from CUNY Hunter College. I graduated from Drexel University with a Master of Science in Human Nutrition with a Clinical Nutrition Research concentration in 2019. Afterward, I matched with my first ranked internship choice and went on to complete my dietetic internship at the National Institutes of Health. I am a Ph.D. student and teacher's assistant at Drexel University in their Nutrition Sciences department, with a concentration in nutritional neuroscience. I currently part part-time as a clinical dietitian and dietetic intern preceptor as well.
