I am a graduate of CUNY Hunter College with a Bachelors in Latin and Ancient Greek, as well as a Masters in Adolescent Latin Education. I began teaching English and math to middle school students in 2012. When I was working at Urban Science Academy in NYC, I remember one particular student of mine who had anxiety when taking tests. They become scatterbrained and unfocused, unable to stop shaking their leg and playing with their pencil, rather than using it. A few weeks leading up to the state tests, I led students in a class debate while teaching a unit on argumentative essay writing. Through my support and guidance, this student spoke with confidence and poise while using evidence to back up his claim. This moment solidified my passion for creating an inquiry-based learning environment where students are critical thinkers, feel empowered, engaged in the material they are learning, and inspired to speak their opinions confidently.In the five years I have been teaching, I am most proud of building valuable and trusting relationships with my students. These relationships spark higher motivation for learning and more positive and healthy social interactions. In my 7th grade math classroom this year, I worked with a student who had consistently scored low on his quarterly assessments up through this year. He struggled with impulse control and had a difficult time focusing for longer periods of time; yet he was very bright, hard working, and asked questions in class everyday. After I worked with him in a small group setting and helped him build confidence, he jumped 30 points. This was a huge success and confidence booster for him. As a tutor, I will bring the qualities I have developed as a classroom teacher, creating a safe environment where students can think outside of the box, make mistakes, and take control over their own learning, to my tutoring sessions.

I am a Hunter College CUNY honors graduate living in New York City, where I first started tutoring English and ESL skills at the Hunter College Reading/Writing Center.I also work for the DOE as a substitute teacher in New York City public, private, and charter schools, teaching all grades and subjects during the school year. In the Summer, I've taught classes in Summer Camps all over Brooklyn, so I've definitely run the spectrum of youth education in New York City!In my junior and senior years of college, I won English Department awards for playwriting and essaywriting, and my plays have been read and performed in theater spaces, including at the Thespis Theater Festival 2013. I am a New York State certified teacher for grades 7-12. I am a graduate of Hunter College in New York City, where I earned both my BA and MA Ed. I loved the opportunities Hunter gave me to pursue my love of Literature, Psychology and Teaching.I have traveled extensively in Europe over the years, and I am always on the lookout for new learning experiences that I can share with my students. I do not hesitate to share with them pictures and stories of the places I have visited which connect to literature because they can see that I am not only knowledgeable about the printed word, but that I have experienced some of what we are reading. I enjoy tutoring one on one because of the bonds I establish with my students. My goal is to have my students enjoy and succeed in the course we are working on. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Binghamton University in New York, where I majored in mathematics. I am currently in my final semester at Hunter College where I will receive a Master's degree and NYS certification in Adolescent Mathematics Education. In addition, I am certified in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and taught at an international English school in Westchester County. I am also an accomplished pastry chef with an interest in low sugar baking. I am excited and inspired by learning and continue to be a student of pastry, music, Spanish, Italian, Latin dancing, and cooking.My strength as a tutor lies in my ability to analyze a student's data and use it to craft a personalized study plan. I have successfully tutored 2 National Merit Finalists for the PSAT and SAT and have seen score increases as high as sixty percent.
