A good teacher - in my opinion - is one that develops a sensitivity to the joy that comes with learning. That joy - much the same in the processes that bring joy of games - is to be found everywhere in the nature of the human brain; a living computer; a vast of potential of weighted logic gates which give rise to the substance of what we call learning when we - by our activities - so organize them.Even the most bizarre or inspired art - so I attest - comes from the negotiation and change of this substance of our minds, and there is real joy in that!

I am a Spanish-speaking professor and a graduate of Teachers College, Columbia University (Ph.D.). I have majored in Spanish Language and Literature. This background has prepared me to combine an interest in motivating students with a desire to learn Spanish and helping them accomplish a high level of proficiency in Spanish American and Spanish culture, and oral and written communication in that foreign language. My teaching philosophy and tutoring styles are based on student`s needs and level of understanding Spanish. After a brief assessment of student`s skills and ability in Spanish, then it would be determined how to proceed with lesson plans and goals to further develop those skills.Since graduation, I have been teaching Spanish to several colleges and universities: Marymount College of Fordham University, Mercy College, Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), John Jay College of Criminal Justice, York College, and Berlitz (a Foreign Language Institute)As a Visiting Assistant Professor at Marymount College of Fordham University, I had the opportunity to teach upper-level courses in Spanish, among others: Practicum in Translation, Contemporary Spanish American Novel, Civilization and Culture of Spanish America, Civilization and Culture of Spain, Topics in Spanish Culture: Art and Literature in Golden-Age Spain, Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Seminar, Independent Studies Courses, Intermediate Spanish I and II.As a Spanish Professor at Mercy College, Borough of Manhattan Community College, and York College, I have taught Elementary and Introductory Spanish courses. At Berlitz, I used to teach Spanish to small groups of students, as well as to one student sessions.I also love reading literary novels, walking, and traveling abroad.

I am a graduate of State University of New York Empire State College and Capella University. I hold a Bachelors of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (major in International Studies). My Masters of Arts of Liberal Studies major is Cultural Anthropology and my Human Services Doctorate focused on Multi-cultural Counseling. I recently retired as a college professor and have 14 years of experience as an instructor both in the classroom and online. While most of my teaching has been with traditional classes, I have extensive experience tutoring one on one as well. Subjects taught include psychology, law and ethics for healthcare professionals, English (including writing and literature), and environmental studies. However, as my personal educational journey from Bachelors to PhD was of a broad and deep nature, I am also qualified to teach many additional subjects in the humanities and social sciences. My motivation as an instructor remains high due to the enjoyment and satisfaction I derive seeing students encounter that, "ah ha!" moment, when a previously difficult concept becomes understandable. I also flourish when encouraging students to think critically about topics and life in general. I love when students challenge me it indicates I'm doing my job! My style of teaching is very "user friendly". I am quite approachable, energetic, and love to use humor in my teaching. I also was voted by the student body at the college at which I taught, "The Most Popular Instructor in the Division of Health Disciplines for the Academic Year 2010-2011" and have been regularly told by students that it's very obvious that I love what I do. In my leisure time, I enjoy reading, films, theatre, spending time with my pets and traveling.

Storytelling is how we make sense of the world. As both a novelist and an educator, I've seen how the act of shaping a narrativewhether in fiction or personal reflectionhelps students locate themselves in the larger human story. My goal as a teacher is to guide students toward that understanding: that writing is not merely a skill, but a way of seeing. For more than fifteen years, I have worked with writers of all levels, from middle school students discovering the joy of words to adults crafting their novels. My teaching is rooted in mentorshipmeeting students where they are, listening deeply, and helping them find their authentic voice. I draw on my experience as a published novelist and developmental editor to create a classroom environment that is both rigorous and nurturing. We focus not only on craftcharacter, structure, dialogue, and world-buildingbut also on the emotional truth that gives writing its power. I believe in learning by doing, by revising, and by sharing. My workshops emphasize collaboration and reflection. Students analyze literature not as distant observers but as apprentices, studying how other writers solve the problems they face on the page. Through discussion and revision, they learn that writing is a process of discovery, one that requires patience, curiosity, and courage. Ultimately, my teaching philosophy rests on this belief: every writer has something to say that only they can express. My role is to help them say it wellto equip them with the tools of craft and the confidence to use them. When a student begins to trust their voice and see their story take shape, that's the moment I know real learning has occurred. That's why I teach.
