My philosophy of education is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take chances. My primary goal is to provide an environment that supports motivation. My role as the teacher will be to assist each student in developing their own potential and learning styles. I will incorporate hands-on learning, cooperative learning, projects, themes, and individual work that engage and activate students learning. Children have something special that they can bring to their own education. I will assist my students to express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as well as embrace the differences of others. I believe that teachers learn from experienced teachers, and practice can only come from receiving feedback and presenting a curriculum that will incorporate each different learning style. I continue to seek out advisors for myself and I also look for opportunities to help my colleagues become better teachers.

Hello there!I am currently a seventh grade science teacher in Queens, I am a recent graduate of SUNY Oneonta in upstate New York with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education and Physics. I am passionate about teaching early readers and writers because I truly believe these skills are the foundation of a successful academic career and life. I tutor reading and writing for grades K-2, and can support your child in learning how to decode more fluently, build deep comprehension of a text, and also be able to articulate strategies they use and apply them to a variety of texts. I received a B.A. in childhood education from SUNY Oneonta (Oneonta, NY) and an M.A in early childhood education from Relay Graduate School of Education (New York, NY). I have spent the last 4.5 years as a teacher and instructional leader at a charter school in Brooklyn, NY. I taught kindergarten and supported novice teachers in achieving professional development goals using a yearlong professional development trajectory that included both classroom management and instructional skills. My favorite subject to teach is early reading because there is nothing that makes my heart happier than seeing a child learn how to read for the first time! I believe all children will rise to the bar we set for them, which is why my teaching style is warm/strict. I bring the joy because learning is fun, but I also set the bar high and reinforce the habit of showing grit. Outside of academia, my hobbies include traveling the world, exercising, spending time on the beach, and making delicious and healthy meals!

I recently graduated with my Master of Science in Biology degree from SUNY Oneonta where I studied the ecology and physiology of the red backed salamander. I have earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from Nazareth College, one in Biology and the other in Toxicology (think about it like the intersection of Biology and Chemistry). I have previously tutored students in Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus. I love getting to talk with students about how careers in science, specifically ecology are so fascinating - you can be a field researcher studying lizards in Mexico for months of the year, you can play in rivers and steams sampling for water quality, you can SCUBA dive to study an animal few have ever seen, and the list goes on and on!

I'm a Certified Orton Gillingham Practitioner, a graduate of SUNY Albany, and I have an MS in Counselor Education from SUNY Oneonta. I'm a former school counselor, Director of Education at Questers' Way, and a public school and homeschool Mom of three boys, two with dyslexia and two with multiple food allergies and asthma. I've successfully mentored teachers in the US, Canada, Brazil, and Singapore as they learn to teach using the Orton Gillingham approach.
