I enjoy helping students feel a sense of achievement that feeling that happens when, after struggling with and working through a challenging question together, the student "gets" it. Their eyes light up, they smile, laugh, put their arms up in a "v" and scream "yes!"... or simply says "yay" in subdued, Monty Python kind-of-way. I have an undergraduate degree in computer graphics and interactive media from Pratt Institute (2003) and a master degree in electronic art from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2015). My favorite subjects to tutor are highschool math, C#, and python for data science. I find comfort in the structured logic of math and programming. It gives me the illusion that our existance can be understood and measured at times when nothing makese sense and the world feels like it's falling apart.

I find it is our experiences and how we perceive them that builds our present place in the world.Education, was very important in my family, it expanded beyond books to Art, Music, Dance etc. They taught me to develop a keen sense of hearing, to look and be aware of what is said by studying human nature i.e. People's gazes, their stance, the speed of which the conversation flows or doesn't flow.I choose to see the narrative we have created.

I am a seasoned performing artist, and performance coach, experienced in public speaking and presentations in various mediums. I received numerous awards as a member of Toastmasters International; a Public Speaking and Leadership organization. I have a passion for helping others become more confident in who they are. Aubrey Roemer was born in Rochester, NY. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute; interning with NYC artists and galleries, and working as Americorps Scholar. She was a journalist for Art Observed, specializing in covering the NYC auction season. Post collegiately, she attended residencies in the USA, Europe, and Asia: at Vermont Studio Center, in England at 42 Acres, and at Kio-a-Thau Sugar Refinery Artist Village in Taiwan. In 2016, she participated in NYU Tisch's The Season Comedia Del'Arte in Florence, Italy, as an Assistant Art Collaborator. Currently, she is working on a project with Wall Therapy in Rochester, NY, before attending Pratt Institute for her MFA.Roemer received grants from Do Your Part & Paddlers For Humanity in 2016, World Connect in 2015, and ARTwerk in 2014. She has exhibited internationally and garnered press for her work. She has spoken at the Parrish Art Museum, in schools, and community centers about her international portrait projects. She is represented by artist Gavery Art and is an affiliate of Artshape Mammoth.Roemer's projects span Nicaragua, Indonesia, and Greece in collaboration with NGO's: La Isla Network addressing the CKDu epidemic, environmental initiatives as the Director of Art and Communications for Oceans Care, and with Desmos and Metadrasi working on refugee relief. Domestically, Roemer teamed up with New York Cares, Unicef, and the Rural and Migrant Ministry, bringing art and education to communities extending from NYC to the Hamptons.

Quite simply my passion is literature: I hold two degrees in creative writing (a B.F.A. and an M.A.) and write poetry, fiction, critical essays, and creative non-fiction. While completing my masters from 2012-2014, I tutored students at my university's writing center. It was there that I discovered another of my passions: helping students who are eager to learn. My profoundly meaningful experience as a tutor led me to join Varsity after graduation.I believe in the importance of writing correctly, expressively, and effectively. Being able to express oneself precisely is vital for students of all disciplines, and indeed for all people who are involved in the difficult process of navigating human relationships. Achieving this precision, however, easier said than done. As a tutor, I am committed to helping students express themselves with as much creativity and uninhibitedness as possible while also staying true to the constraints of the English language. I believe that I am able to do this by employing the conversational method of pedagogy: asking questions, prodding students to push themselves creatively and intellectually, and attending to the details of their written work. I'm a professional writer and designer with a reputation of strong, succinct messaging. Since graduating from Pratt Institute in 2007, I've published several short stories and non-fiction pieces in addition to working with various non-profits to build successful promotional materials. Reading is my deepest passion, and more than anything, I want to help students get excited and confident with their ability to tackle the toughest works in their curriculum. I'm also a history nerd who worked as a part-time tour guide in Manhattan. My best teachers were the enthusiastic ones, and I firmly believe it's the key to helping students engage and gain confidence. I hold a BFA in Writing for Performance, Publication, and Media.
