I am a sophomore at Canisius College on the Pre-Medicine track. I major in Biochemistry and minor in business. I am someone who is highly interested in practicing my knowledge and passing on what I know with regards to various sciences and mathematics. I hope to one day practice medicine, and teach what I have learned as well.

My passion is making math and science visual and applicable. I want to bring my experience from being a college professor to students as a tutor.

Hi, I'm Laura. I am the daughter of two English teachers who grew up extensively reading and writing. I am a huge science nerd, but in general a knowledge nerd. I have a formal education in Biology, with a Doctorate degree (DDS) in dental surgery. Through my training I mastered the subjects of biology, earth science, microbiology, anatomy, pharmacology, chemistry, etc. my college education was at a liberal arts school, Canisius College, where I graduated cum laude. In that coursework I pursued history, literature, philosophy, and world religions. I love teaching and am very patient and able to tailor lessons to the students individual needs. I understand what it means to be a visual learner, and how hard that can be when a professor only lectures. This is something that I had to overcome in my studies, and really enjoy helping other students not only master their subjects, but also enabling them to perceive and receive information so that they can absorb the knowledge and perform well when tested. When this is done, confidence is boosted, and it's all uphill from there.

I am looking forward to working with students again! I was a teacher/tutor for several years before beginning my family 2 years ago. My husband and I recently had twin girls and then a little boy so I have taken a break from the 9-5 scene for a bit. I miss teaching and working with students and I am excited to get back into the world of education. Helping students understand different topics in math (specifically) is my passion and I look forward to working with new students to help them gain confidence and comfort with any areas they are seeking help with.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, minoring in Criminal Justice and Women & Gender Studies. I am excited to help students reach their goals in academia! I was an International Baccalaureate student prior to college where my SL subjects were Calculus, Chemistry and English. My HL IB subjects were Spanish, History and Biology. I was a tutor throughout high school for various AP Exams, including Psychology, and was a tutor and note-taker for various college courses. I am planning on start my PhD in Forensic Psychology in the next year. I was also a Division I college athlete, so am very knowledgeable with various studying techniques. Outside of academia, I enjoy playing beach volleyball, going on hikes, and playing the occasional tennis match.

I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelors degree in Biology from Canisius College in 2013. I and am currently finishing my last year of dental school, earning a D.D.S. from SUNY University at Buffalo with a minor in Endodontics. Throughout my post high school education I have learned to appreciate the effectiveness of organization, time management, test taking skills, and good study habits. With my strong background in Math and Sciences, I offer tutoring in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Biology, Anatomy, and Physiology. I prompt students with leading question at every stage: how would you being?...why?..how?...what next?Confidence is built through achievement, and I believe that nothing prepares a student for success like getting the student to realize he or she can independently overcome large challenges by building his or confidence through smaller successes. The idea is to get a student to think logically through problems by providing guiding hints and baby steps, building on what they know, and leading them to the answer.I believe my role as a teacher is that of a leader where you have to show the path, motivate, encourage, and lead by example.

I am a graduate of Canisius College with a degree in Chemistry and Northwestern University with a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. I am passionate about helping mentor the next generation STEM students, with my favorite subject being chemistry. I first developed my interest in education during college where I worked for a science summer camp and also performed chemistry outreach events at local schools. I am frequently disappointed when I hear people get turned off from science because it is too difficult, complex, and abstract. For me, science is exciting and I want to help students feel that way too.

As a psychology major, I focus on the development of the mind and its connection to the emotions that we use to learn. Understanding the process of learning from a psychological perspective gives me an advantage in my ablility to tutor. I am able to identify where each student meets their challenges, to then apply the best accurate teaching techniques to help them achieve their highest potential academic goal.

I have a Dual Bachelors from Canisius College in Political Science & Criminal Justice. I am a former Investigator with the State of New Jersey. I have been a freelance tutor in various subject areas for over 10 years. I have tutored all ages from elementary through college-level. My specialty is English essay writing, proofreading, study skills, and general homework assistance. I also have many years of experience in tutoring SAT Math & Verbal, as well as mathematics elementary through college statistics. My philosophy on tutoring is that we are students and we have the opportunity to learn something new everyday!When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy long walks, reading mystery novels, watching psychological thrillers, writing poetry, painting and drawing. I also have 10 years of classical ballet training, as well as a few years as a gymnast.

My passion for teaching began in 2001 when I began to teach Documentary Production to middle school students in the Bronx. My passion and inspiration to teach stems from my own unique opportunity in life and has motivated me to educate and change the lives of each student I welcome into my classroom. I truly live my life through my own personal philosophy to educate, inspire, and change the lives of those who need it the most. I received a Masters of Fine Arts from City College in Film, a Masters in Science from Canisius College in Education and an undergraduate degree from SUNY New Paltz.
