As a tutor with over 5 years of experience, I am passionate about helping students navigate the complexities of Mechanical Engineering. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the City University of New York and a Master's in Global Environmental Policy and Management, I blend technical knowledge with a broader understanding of environmental impacts. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and explore concepts deeply. I utilize hands-on problem-solving techniques and real-world applications to make learning engaging and relevant. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring sustainable technologies, which continually fuels my enthusiasm for teaching and inspires my students to think critically about their future contributions to the field.

I am passionate about teaching math to high schoolers. My specialty is being able to connect Mathematical concepts to real world and simplifying complex problems in order for the students to feel confident with their math knowledge.
I take pleasure in helping students bridge the gap between the known and the unknown.
After graduating in 2011 from the City College of New York, I worked as a consultant for Dr. Dewey who then recruited me from Brookhaven National Lab to the Feinstein institutes for Medical Research. That year, I entered the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and joined the inaugural class as one of three PhD students of the new medical school. My dissertation project interrogated pre-clinical sex differences in the metabolic neural patterns associated with opioid pain management using18-fludeoxyglucose (18FDG) and micro positron emission tomography (MicroPET). I was able to show that distinct metabolic patterns of pain were sex-specific, and confirmed that an animal model could be useful in revealing distinct metabolic indicators of opioid withdrawal and improve the efficacy of therapeutic intervention. As a Research Scientist at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, I oversee operations of the MicroPET imaging facility as part of the Center for Neurosciences. I have recentl studies include studies of the extracellular cold-inducible RNA-binding protein, (CIRP-/-) and wild type (WT) mice, before and after exposure to binge-alcohol levels. By quantifying glucose metabolism with 18FDG and MicroPET, and using brain-mapping analysis of the imaging data, we can determine if CIRP plays a role in alcohol-induced cognitive impairment. I have served as mentor to many undergraduate and some high school students, and very much enjoy sharing my knowledge base with those that enjoy science.

I am a recent graduate of the Teachers College, Columbia University, Technology Specialist K-12 program. Technology Specialists are trained to couple digital devices and applications with curriculum to facilitate learning transfer and boost student collaboration. While studying for my degree, I completed three hundred hours of student teaching and observation in public, private, elementary and high schools in districts throughout New York City. This experience fortified the ideology that utilizing virtual software diminishes didacticism, encourages student engagement and creates highly interactive learning environments.Prior to attending Teachers College, I obtained a Master of Science degree from Full Sail University, as an Innovation and Entrepreneurship major. This field of study provides students who wish to build start-up companies in the technology field with all the skills required to do so. The culmination of my studies resulted in the construction of a web-based, media company that coalesces viewers from around the world, in order to foster the transfer of socio-cultural awareness. My initial introduction to the classroom occurred upon graduating from the City College of New York. I was offered a permanent position as a third grade assistant teacher at the Ralph Bunch Elementary School in Harlem. There, I assisted students in lesson comprehension by reiterating classroom subject matter in small groups of three to five students. As well, by implementing innovative learning strategies, I helped the lead teacher propel our students well past expectations. As a Varsity Tutor, I am best suited to help elementary and middle school students strengthen their reading, comprehension and writing skills. I have a myriad of fun and interactive, virtual applications at my disposal that are designed to significantly increase students' reading fluency and understanding, as well as their writing ability.

I am a mechanical engineering student who will graduate from The City College of New York this December. I hope to pursue a career in the energy industry once I graduate. I believe that this industry is the key in helping improve our environment for future generations and I hope to be involved in its effort to expand technologies in renewable energy. As an engineering student, I learned that knowing the right answer is not necessarily the most important thing. It is more important to learn how to solve a problem. When I encounter a problem that seems impossible, instead of simply giving up, I go back to my basics. Instead of focusing on what I do not know, I look at what information is given to me. I also look at the problem from a different angle to see if it is another way to solve the problem.I hope to teach students that despite how challenging a problem may appear, they shouldn't feel discouraged. They should know that there is always a way to solve it.
I am a healthcare leader with over 12 years of professional experience and a passion for helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals. As a freshman, I began workshop leading in Introductory Chemistry courses and, soon thereafter, progressed to Organic, Quantitative and Thermodynamic Chemistry.I enjoyed my interaction with the students so much that, after graduating, I decided to adjunct lecture at a community college. There, I welcomed the exciting challenge of engaging adult learners in an introductory biology course with labs. Recently, I have garnered some extensive private experience tutoring middle to high-school age students in Algebra, Geometry, ELA, Chemistry and Biology, as an independent contractor for a couple of companies.I look forward to working with you to achieve the success to which you aspire and are capable!
I am a graduate student at City College where I am getting certified to teach ENL and 7-12 Math. I love working with students of all ages, and from a multitude of backgrounds. A few years ago, I lived in Istanbul, Turkey for a year and taught math & English to 1st and 2nd grade students. In my spare time I also tutored younger students and adults. I currently tutor a range of students from kindergarten to adults in math & reading and love tutoring more and more everyday. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, swimming, cooking and traveling.
My interest in mathematics dates back to my years in middle school and high school, where I excelled in Mathematics. My mother was a high school math teacher so I was naturally inclined to the love of math. In college I decided to go into a more challenging field other than math, and so I decided to major in computer engineering. I am still in the process of achieving my bachelor's degree in engineering, and I also hope to achieve a minor degree in mathematics, which after my undergraduate level, I will go into graduate level to pursue mathematics. I like to tutor students in various aspect of mathematics because, I just like them, had someone in my early life help me understand that mathematics isn't something to be afraid of but rather an impressing way of expressing one's self and helping solve daily life problems.

Hi there! My name is Zach. I'm a PhD at Harvard studying German philosophy and classics (Greek and Latin). Next year, I will be starting law school to pursue my professional passion, tax law. I am deeply committed to the language and LSAT skills I've developed and I love to tutor students of all levels in these subjects. I can't imagine a life without teaching. My favorite part of teaching is helping students come to love -- or at least appreciate -- the details that make up complex subject matters. My favorite moment with any student is when the student realizes how fascinating a subject matter is after really mastering all of the "dry" details. When my students start internalizing the LSAT or languages I am teaching them, I know I am doing my job.I graduate summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from CUNY Macaulay Honors College in New York City, and started teaching undergraduate and graduate classes during my last year there. At Harvard, I have earned the Derek Bok Certificate for Excellence in Teaching three separate times. I have taught students as young as 14 and as old as 85.German: I studied abroad in Osnabrck, Lower Saxony and Berlin, where I earned my C2 certificate (near-native proficiency) in German. While in Germany, I took classes, taught in German, on Greek and Latin philology. I have taught beginning, intermediate, and advanced German at both regular and intensive paces at Harvard and CUNY.Greek and Latin: I am standing faculty at the Greek/Latin Institute, a famously intensive classical languages boot camp in New York City. I have taught students from all around the world and at all ages there. I have also taken all of the most advanced Greek and Latin coursework at Harvard.I studied comparative literature (French, Italian, and English) as an undergrad alongside my studies of classics. For my masters degree, I had to pass a three-part exam at Harvard on the history of German literature. My knowledge of literature is broad and deep!I earned a 174 on the LSAT (99th percentile).Ready to get to work and dive into the weeds? Want to know more about what working together would look like? I would love to hear from you.
I have graduated from CUNY - The City College of New York on Fall 2020. I am passionate about helping students since I was in high school. When I see students coming up with their own study techniques, it inspires me. I believe that every student is different. The same strategy will not work for everyone. My goal is to influence the student enough to come up with their own technique. A teacher can only open the door to knowledge, but the student has to be intrigued enough to go through the door.

Each and every student is unique. I do not teach all my students the same way. I teach each student based on their needs and his or her learning style. I reward my students for good work, and I encourage them when they are struggling. I make learning fun, challenging and interactive. Majority of my students start to see improvement within the first few weeks. I am patient and passionate about tutoring, and I waste no time in helping my students to become confident and bold. I will do whatever it takes to make sure that my student is confident in the subject area. It is my duty to make sure that my students own their materials. I have been an educator for 10 years in both the NYC and Miami metropolitan areas and can honestly say I love what I do. After graduating from NYU as an undergraduate, I received my master's degree in education from CUNY City College as I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in education. With many years of experience in and out of the classroom, I have seen firsthand how students learn differently and how important it is to meet each student where they are at. Most importantly, learning should be fun and I love to use music and art as tools to make any lesson more engaging. I am patient and understanding and will always make sure to listen to every question asked. My goal is to ensure that you feel confident and comfortable with the material at hand and will not continue on with any instruction until we are on the same page. I truly believe that all questions are great questions and I welcome all curious and inquisitive minds! I look forward to meeting you!

I'm a multi-passionate artist, travel junkie, & life enthusiast capturing my creative journey- one pencil mark, painterly brushstroke, and photo at a time. As a mixed media visual artist from the Bronx, I have always loved exploring the possibilities of different mediums and techniques (e.g. micron black ink pens, charcoal, pastels, magazine strips, oil and watercolor paints). Art has always been my passion since my adoption and experiences in the foster care system. I take ideas hostage by scribbling or sketching them anywhere, let my ideas float around in my noggin and interact with whatever is already brewing for creative flow. In the past few years, I've incorporated collage and altered book making with my existing interests in topics such as nature, personal identity, and African American and Hispanic imagery.

As an aspiring engineer, I see applications of mathematics on the daily and I would love to share the knowledge that I have received with fellow students.
With such a high demand for STEM in today's marketplace, there's a shortage of STEM education in many NYC public schools. My goal is to make a motivational impact on the minds of our youth in the same way I was motivated from high school onto college. In 2017, I graduated from the City College of New York with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and have since started pursuing my M.D. at the CUNY School of Medicine.I first began tutoring in high school through the MSPinNYC2 program, which is where I first discovered my passion to help others.Over the last few years, I've had multiple teaching and tutoring opportunities with students ranging from first grade to college, in both one-on-one and group settings. My main focus lies in biology, chemistry, and math. This fuels my belief that all students have the ability to understand and master STEM related topics!
I currently maintain a strong GPA while taking part in several activities. I got the opportunity to take part in a Biology and Biochemistry research lab, as well as become a Research Associate at Brooklyn Hospital. I am currently a member of the Alpha Epsilon Honors Society, and a Collegiate Health Service Corps Fellow. Secondly, I am a Peer Mentor for incoming biology students. Tutoring is something I am incredibly passionate about. I have tutored for over 5 years and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Seeing a tutee finally understand a concept they have been struggling with is deeply rewarding. I also have been able to learn a lot from my tutees over the years. I hope we can learn from each other!
Before I began student teaching at P.S 149Q, I had doubts about teaching full-time. Not because I didn't like teaching, but because I doubted how effective I would be as an educator. Teachers' whom I've met throughout my journey had always described their jobs as a battlefield, and either ended their days' in victory or defeat. I've seen more defeated teachers than I want to admit, and could not help but feel insecure about my own abilities to make a difference. My mom said once that teaching was like performing surgery, explaining that I had the potential to shape a child's life. As I looked into my students' eyes during my first day of student teaching, I remembered her words of wisdom, and asked myself, "Can I do that?"I found the answer to that question midway through my student teaching. A student of mine was struggling immensely. My CT and I both knew he needed extensive one-on-one guidance; he seemed aware of that too. As I took him to the back of the room to help him with his math assignment, he had a dejected look on his face. I smiled at him and attempted to make him laugh, to no avail. His shame was like a leak, and it was bleeding from his body. Before I had a chance to say anything, he muttered, "I can't do this. I'm not learning." It wasn't said with heat, only miserable acceptance. I felt it then- a spark of defiance coursing through my body, and I knew that I couldn't let him continue believing that about himself. I turned his chair to face me, and I took his hands in mine. "Anthony," I said, "you have the ability to learn just like everyone else." He shook his head in disagreement. I nodded in return, smiling confidently. "Yes, you can," I continued, "your brain just learns differently from us." He looked at me then, and even though doubt still clouded his eyes, I also saw a glimmer of hope. "Common, lets work together to figure these questions out," I whispered enthusiastically. One period later, my desk indeed looked like a battlefield- manipulatives and eraser bits covered my entire desk; I was mentally exhausted. But the worksheet was complete, and Anthony was smiling a million dollar smile. "You did it, Anthony!" I said. He nodded and laughed giddily, clapping his hands. My heart burst with the joy and satisfaction of being able to restore Anthony's confidence, of giving him the hope to march onwards in his struggle to learn. That day I learned what teaching was all about- giving students the confidence that they can learn. Anthony didn't know this, but he also helped me realize that I wanted to continue doing that as an educator. While I finished student teaching and am still nervous, I am surer than ever that I picked the right career for myself. Anthony and I won that battle, and I anticipate many more victories to come.
Hello everyone! I am a current third year medical student who is pursuing a medical career today thanks to a few very special mentors in my academic life. My goal as a tutor is to instill in my students an excitement for learning that encourages them to reach higher goals on their own. I believe math is the gateway subject that allows students to build confidence and tackle virtually every other subject. I also love learning and speaking new languages, which is a cultural window to a world of people that we were never privy to before. I would like to pass this love of languages on to my students as well.

Alumni tutors bring practical perspective to their teaching. They can show you how concepts apply in real coursework, share which study methods helped them succeed, and guide you through specific classes or instructors you might encounter. Because they've completed the same degree requirements or courses, they understand the progression of material and can help you build a strong foundation in each subject. This personalized guidance, grounded in their own academic success at City College, can significantly improve your understanding and grades.

Personalized tutoring lets you work at your own pace with a tutor who can focus entirely on your learning. Rather than keeping up with a classroom full of students, your tutor can slow down on tough concepts, skip material you already know, and spend extra time on your weak areas. A City College tutor can tailor explanations to your learning style and connect material to examples you care about. This individualized approach, backed by the tutor's institutional knowledge, helps you build confidence and mastery faster than classroom instruction alone.
