I received my bachelors and law degrees from Columbia University in New York. As an attorney who has lived and studied abroad, my teaching style is influenced by my broad experiences and big-picture mentality, understanding that students learn in different ways. I believe the most important thing in teaching is to frame the problem in a way that the student can understand what the bigger questions are, and to create their own frameworks to address issues without outside assistance. I also believe in encouraging consistent and efficient study habits so that students know how to study most effectively. Outside of work, I love to ballroom dance and explore the food scene in New York City.

I've been lucky to have attended some fine educational institutions, though I don't come from the kind of background where such opportunities can be taken for granted. I believe every student should have the same opportunities as I've had, and I want to do everything I can to make those opportunities available to every student.
I'm an undergraduate at Columbia College. I love tutoring students in math, German, SHSAT, and SAT. I believe that I have good communication and pedagogical skills, and a firm understanding of the subject matter. Having come from Germany at the age of eleven, I know the frustration that can come with feeling overwhelmed by coursework. I performed well on standardized exams like the SHSAT and the SAT and can teach test-taking skills that will ultimately lead students to institutions like Stuyvesant H.S. and Columbia.
I tutor securities licensing exam prep courses for NASAA & FINRA registrations (Series 6,7,63,65,66 and a few others).I own a financial practice, hold the Series 65 and a CRPC designation, and my experience, knowledge and research are current and relevant.
I am a graduate of Columbia College where Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. Additionally I received a Master in Education degree from Lesley University. I have been a teacher for 18 years. 14 of those years, I devoted my time in the classroom as a full time teacher. The most recent 4 years I transitioned to being a Math Interventionist. Being a teacher has been a rewarding experience for me. Knowing that I have helped shape and nurture students has filled my heart with joy and contentment. Most recently as a Math Interventionist, I was able to work 1:1 or in a small group with students. Also, I was able to tailor lessons to meet their learning needs and help them build and enhance their number sense/fluency. Many students were afraid to struggle or make mistakes. I help to build their confidence and reassured them that mathematicians will make mistake and struggle from time to time. My job as an educator has always been to motivate students to become independent thinkers and confident learners. These are the qualities they need to have in order to be successful individuals in society.
I am a firm believer in the concept of self-directed learning. To me, learning is not about memorizing facts and numbers (although I do love facts) but about creating your own experience. Learning truly becomes passion when it asks as much from the student as it gives back. My role as a tutor is to be a collaborator. I am here to challenge and help, but I am not here to direct the learning. That must come from the student. I truly believe that this approach leads to more passionate and better students.I am a professional improv coach and performer as well. I feel those skills help me be a better tutor. Flexibility is important in maximizing a students potential. I am also obsessed with historical non-fiction. I can talk history for hours.
I graduated summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 2012. I received my Bachelor of Arts in political science and my Bachelor of Science in economics. After graduating, I immediately moved to New York City to attend Columbia Law School, where I will receive my JD in May, 2015. Throughout undergraduate, I regularly tutored economics, math, and statistics courses at the school's tutoring center, and helped several students to turn around their class performance. I also enjoy helping students prepare for standardized test, whether that be the SAT or the LSAT. Especially with regard to the SAT Math, I love helping students understand the various curveballs that CollegeBoard often throws, and assisting them in achieving better scores than they thought possible. I am also passionate about Texas Rangers baseball, and fill an inordinate amount of my free time with fantasy sports and statistical research on the sport.
I am a graduate of Columbia College of Missouri. I received my Bachelor of General Studies with a minor in Elementary Education. Later, I attended my alma mater to obtain my Master of Arts in Teaching. Since graduation, I worked as a third-grade teacher in Scottsdale, Arizona teaching students of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, stories and abilities, tailoring my instruction to meet their individual learning needs, and ensuring an inclusive, supportive environment for all learners. During my time as an elementary teacher, I tutored small groups of students in reading and math, as well as prepared those students for their state standardized assessments. While I have experience tutoring children in reading and math, I also have the knowledge and skill to tutor in other subjects/learning opportunities such as study skills, organizational skills, writing, and more. As a former teacher, my goal is to teach the material in a way that is not only engaging, but also varied. I enjoy using different teaching methods and strategies to get a concept across such as whole-body movement, pictures, written notes, and repetition to name a few. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my toddler and husband, reading thriller books, watching college football (go Ole Miss!) and catching up with friends over coffee.
As a passionate educator with a Bachelor's in Music Education from Lebanon Valley College and a Bachelor's in English from Columbia College, I have over 2 years of tutoring experience in subjects such as Creative Writing, Essay Editing, and High School American Literature. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a supportive learning environment where students feel confident to express their ideas and creativity. I believe in tailoring my approach to meet each student's unique needs, inspiring them to develop their writing and critical thinking skills. With more than 8 years of classroom experience and certification to teach in New Jersey, I am dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals while instilling a lifelong love for learning. In my free time, I enjoy reading, horseback riding, and watching tennis.
I am a retired trial attorney with 43 years of experience, a recent five-year tutor, a published writer, and a life-long fan of young people. I have my theory of learning: the brain does not know the word "No Positivity above all. If you learn what to do, you will not do what not to do.."
I am a current student at Columbia College majoring in English Editorial and Minoring in Communications. I have worked with students in grades 5-12 to improve their English, Writing, and Editing skills. I have also taught students grades 5-12 Spanish at varying levels of proficiency . I am extremely passionate in English, Writing, and Editing because it is an essential part of every students life which will help them later on with whatever they choose to do. I am also really invested in teaching student Spanish because it helps broaden their ability to communicate and adds to their skill set. I really believe in helping students grow and improve their work from wherever they currently are to areas they never thought possible. I want my students to take what they learn and apply it in both their school work and their everyday lives.
