I am a Licensed Master Social Worker. I obtain my Masters Degree at Touro College Graduate School of Social Work. I also obtained my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in English from SUNY Binghamton University. I am also a certified school Social Worker. I always knew, if I did not become a Social Worker, I would become an English teacher. Either way, I wanted to help children. That has always been my passion and goal in life. Throughout my career, I have always worked with children assisting them academically, especially assisting them to improve and excel in reading and writing. I love reading and I always try to get my students to realize that reading and writing is necessary. I want them to see that it is fun and entertaining and can be just as entertaining as their tablets. My teaching style is to meet my students where they are and move forward as a team in order for them to reach their goal. It takes time and patience and I am willing to help them to reach their full potential. I am experienced in working with students with an IEP and also those with Processing Disorders.

I have been in the field of education for twenty years now. I began my career in 2001 as a third grade teacher in New York City. During my duration there, I taught grades three through six. I relocated to the state of Georgia in 2005 where I continued my teaching in grade 5. I have twenty years of certified teaching experience under my belt to offer your student. I am currently serving as a third grade instructional leader for Dekalb County Schools.I hold a Bachelors degree in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Elementary/Special Education, and a Education Specialist Degree from Grand Canyon University in Instructional Leadership. I will soon be leaving the classroom to pursue school administration. My philosophy of education is very simple; I believe that every child deserves an education no matter what obstacle or hindrance may come their way. It has been my duty and my honor to live up to that creed since I began this journey in this field.

I attended Suny Old Westbury University for my undergraduate degree. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education and General Education Grades 1-6. I then went on to complete my Bachelor of Science Degree at Touro College in ESL. Before starting a family, I taught in the New York City public school system as a Special Education teacher. I tutor all subjects at the elementary level (grades K-6) since that is where I gained most of my experience; however I can also tutor students in higher grade levels in reading and writing as well. I enjoy tutoring all subjects but would have to choose reading, writing, math, and social studies as my favorites. I love social studies because I love teaching children about the world we live in and its rich history. Math was difficult for me as a child, however now as an adult I see why I had trouble and feel I can help students who are having the same difficulties that I did.I describe my tutoring style as fun and interactive. I believe that learning in any subject can be enjoyable, even though it may be challenging. I like to use manipulatives for a hands-on approach to learning in mathematics and materials for reading and writing that children have an interest in. Outside of teaching, I love to spend time outside with my family any chance I get. I enjoy going to museums, aquariums, amusement parks, and any place that allows me to interact with animals.

My belief is that anyone can learn. We all learn in different ways.In life when we set clear goals and bring a ready mindset, our goals are ready to become a reality. My teaching style is based on honing in on the multiple intelligences.I implement a well structured learning hour.A lesson will consist of modeling for the student, student practice by motivating students and focusing on their strengths while gently helping them with their academic weaknesses. In the last five minutes of each session, I incorporate writing in a journal, so students can write down goals and ideas about their school day or even one new concept they have learned and mastered.Later on in time, students can read their journal and see how much they have accomplished!

I am a great tutor because I am an invested teacher and remain an enthusiastic learner; I have a passion for literature and history, an interest in helping others, and a range of experiences working with many different learners.I graduated cum laude from Amherst College with a B.A. in English and History, I have my M.S. in Childhood Education and Special Education from Touro College, and I have an initial teaching certificate in New York.In addition to my personal education, my experiences in the classroom and my continued work in education have shaped me as an educator. I taught second grade for two years in south Bronx, supporting my 32 students in mastering content in all subjects, including writing, math, and reading. After that, I transitioned to a network office where I now write middle school and high school English Language Arts curriculum and assessments. While I love my current work, I am not in the classroom much anymore. I miss working directly with students, and thus am very interested in tutoring. I have a particular interest in tutoring all elementary subjects, English Language Arts, and U.S. history. While there is a time and a place for "lecture," I believe students do their best thinking when they are answering thoughtful questions both verbally and in writing. Because thinking is the crux of learning, I always strive to have student voices dominating during tutoring sessions.Tutoring sessions are short, so I believe each one should be purposeful. Each session must have a goal that is clear to both me and the student. Because learning is as much about skills acquisition as it is about content knowledge--a student does not want to need a tutor forever!-- these goals should be transferable, and feedback throughout a session should drive toward helping a student achieve that goal.

I have been tutoring since I was a college student. At that point, I taught high school students and helped them to excel on the SAT/ACT as well as in the various Regents exams. I graduated summa cum laude from Touro College, and now I am a graduate student working towards my PhD in history and teaching college part-time.I have had the opportunity to teach hundreds of students in a college classroom. I have really enjoyed this experience, but I have found that many smart, motivated students lack the skills they need to maintain a strong GPA in college. To address this problem, I began to focus my high school tutoring on writing and critical analysis skills, and I worked one-on-one with some of my college students. I developed a system that focuses on developing reading comprehension, organized writing, and analytical thinking. These skills enable you to succeed on standardized tests like the SAT, but also in English and humanities classes. This is also what I use to prepare students for the PSAT. Trust me, it works! Not only did I score 2220 on the SAT, but my PSAT score helped me to become a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.I care deeply about what I do, but I think what really distinguishes me from many other tutors is my flexibility and commitment to the individual. I work around my students' individual needs and learning styles so that hardworking students can achieve the academic success they deserve!
