As a child, I was privileged to have a positive educational experience within an area of the Bronx that is still considered to be of high need. One thing that has resonated with me in my childhood education were the teachers that I had. My kindergarten teacher Ms. Rolfe showed me how to make pink chocolate on Valentines Day. My first grade teacher, Ms. Clayborne, gave away her lunch breaks so that she could help me with my spelling. My second grade teacher, Ms. Dillon, inspired me to become an avid reader. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Kasper, made sure I did my homework every night when she noticed that I was slacking. The optimism of Mrs. Hamilton in fourth grade motivated me to make the honor roll, and my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Farkus pushed me to get one of the highest standardized tests scores in the school. Each of these public school teachers created a climate within the class thatpromoted learning and student achievement.Over the years, I have met many professionals that have shared horror stories about their experiences with teachers who doubted them or did not set them up for success. As an educator, I have become cognizant of the fact that I ultimately create the learning environment of my students. Knowing that students depend on me each day to guide them into become better versions of themselves is an incredible task that I amwilling to take. As an educator, I hope to empower the youth of today to become the leaders of tomorrow. And as a New York State teacher, one way in which I know I can achieve thisis by paying it forward. My goal would be to provide the same rigorous and joyful education my former teachers provided me.

I am a graduate of Mercy College and Fordham University. At Mercy College, I received my MS in Urban Education with a concentration in special education. As for my undergraduate studies, I received a BA in Political Science and Spanish Studies with a minor in Latin American Studies. My work experience includes over three years of teaching experience. During that time, I created lesson plans, assessed data, and planned out goals for my students. My expertise is in Spanish and Math, but I have taught ELA, social studies, and science. Moreover, one of my specialties is preparing students for the NYS exams including the REGENTS exams. The teaching philosophy I find most effective is to customize lessons based on the student's interests and learning style. In my spare time, I play tennis and volleyball.

6+ Years Tutoring

I am a graduate of The University of Rochester, where I acquired a Bachelor's Degree in English Literature, and Mercy college, where I earned a Master's of Urban Education and Policy. Since graduation I have spent 15 years honing my teaching and tutoring skills. I have taught and tutored a broad spectrum of courses but prefer teaching Algebra and Writing. I am passionate about Writing because I enjoy it on a personal level. I enjoy teaching Algebra because as a student I struggled with the concepts and so I can empathize with students who don't understand. As a result, I've developed several different strategies to help explain Algebra to struggling students. I firmly believe that education provides a necessary foundation for life and that the relationship between the teacher and student is a key factor to learning. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, attending concerts, hiking, and spending time with family.

I am a graduate student at Mercy College, studying to earn my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Two things I am passionate about are movement, and helping people, which luckily fits very nicely to my career goals. Education is so important and should be a fun experience for everyone. By helping students on an individual level, I hope to make learning science more enjoyable. Biology is my specialty but can help explain basic concepts in Chemistry and Physics as well. I have helped a variety of students, ranging from 2nd grade to undergraduate in college. In my spare time, I am often studying, running, playing with my two dogs, or watching sports (football, hockey, and basketball are my favorites, but I'll watch anything).
