I have worked with students ages 14-21 with various skill sets and backgrounds. Learning is a skill that continues through ones life and I believe in teaching not just the content at hand but tips and tricks that will help the student master their individual learning style. They will leave feeling confident in the material and knowing that in the future they will be able to extract information and master it on their own. I'm a dedicated teacher and tutor and am willing to go above and beyond to make the experience as enjoyable and beneficial as possible. I am available to my students off scheduled hours through email to help with any "roadblocks". On my own time I enjoy hiking, baseball, painting, cooking, and spending time with animals.

I originally began my undergraduate career as a nursing major, because I wanted a job where I could learn science as well as help people. In my sophomore year, I took the chemistry nursing course and it was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I decided to change my major to chemistry and pursue a different path. This was a difficult decision for me since I was not one of the people who thought science was easy and never had to study, I had to work very hard to understand the concepts and work through the problems.My struggles with chemistry everyday and my ability to work hard and learn anyway are some of the reasons why I teach. Students struggle with the same material I did and had the same frustrations. I can 100% relate to their feelings.My tutoring strategy builds off of using simple analogies to understand concepts and clear explanations to understand problem solving and strategies. I strive to create a safe learning environment for asking questions and saying "I have no idea what's going on. I need help."As a third year graduate student at Stony Brook University, I have been a teaching assistant since my time in undergraduate. I have taught general chemistry (I and II), honors general chemistry, and a graduate/undergraduate listed biochemistry course. I have won two teaching awards, one just for graduate students in the chemistry department in their first year and the second a university wide teaching award from all graduate students in all departments. I have tutored high school students and mentored middle school students. I am a recently retired French Teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching all levels from beginners to AP. I received my undergraduate degree from Adelphi University and graduate level teaching certificate from George Mason University. I have spent considerable time living in France and was awarded a prestigious ROTARY Exchange Student Scholarship to attend a French High School. In addition, I attended the prestigious Political Science School at the University of Grenoble where I completed courses taught entirely in French. As a World Language teacher, I have always stressed communication skills in all four competence areas: speaking, listening, reading and writing. In addition, my subject competence and teaching skills have enabled both AP students to succeed on the exam, and lower-level students to enjoy and progress in the French language. I am an advocate of World Language Instruction believing that it enriches and provides a global perspective. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, yoga, running, biking and spending time with my family and friends.
