I am currently working towards my Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Integrative Neuroscience at Binghamton University. In the past year, I worked with underprivileged kids who needed help improving their literacy skills and understanding of math and science. I firmly believe in educational equity and love being able to assist students in furthering their knowledge of troubled subjects/areas. I have tutored in many subjects ranging from Calculus to Essay Editing to SHSAT prep, but my personal favorite is tutoring Chemistry. It is my favorite subject to learn, so helping others understand it allows me to solidify my own knowledge of it. My approach to tutoring anything, especially the harder subjects, is to always use relatable examples or metaphors to strike a connection in a student's mind. The more relatable a hard concept feels, the better it can be understood. Outside of tutoring, I love going on hikes, running, playing guitar, reading books, and painting.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in physical education. Very optimistic and patient educator here to help you! My specialty is in elementary school science and health and nutritional sciences.
I am a student before all, this opportunity to tutor is not unique to this. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from CUNY Brooklyn College. There I learned what it meant to look after my fellow student as a peer mentor. I went on to learn what it meant to teach during my time as a service learner, where I tutored students I middle school among duties. While I enjoy tutoring I am most passionate about English and Psychology as not only do I have the most history in, I am biased as they are what outlines my career aspirations. Outside of education I enjoy reading, playing video games, HEMA long sword practice, and cooking.
I have a Master degree in English and am licensed in K-12 to teach ESL. My specialty includes helping children develop their vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. I have 10 years of experiences working with elementary students and 2 years tutoring English to students of all ages.
I am currently a senior at CUNY Brooklyn College working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Children and Youth Studies. I work in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis with children who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. I have experience tutoring students in elementary and middle school in a variety of subjects, but the subjects I have worked with most are English, Writing, and Math. I have worked as an after school counselor where a portion of each day was dedicated to assisting students with homework and often leading the class in completing assignments and problems that presented challenges. My favorite subject to tutor is Math because I struggled with Math from elementary school through High School. If it were not for tutoring, I would not have been able to grasp certain concepts on my own; a part of my philosophy in tutoring and in life is to use my experiences with challenges and learning to help other people reach a goal; for instance, using techniques I learned receiving math tutoring to help a student struggling in the same area. I believe it is important for students to understand their capability to solve a problem – my tutoring style involves an interactive approach in which I work from the bottom up with students, allowing them to express what they do understand first, before tackling that which might be confusing; I believe the confidence in knowing what you can do is important when learning to accomplish what you think you can’t do. A few of my interests outside of tutoring and working with children are playing my bass guitar, dancing, stepping, and playing with my dog! I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and also enjoy putting on programs and participating in community service with my chapter.
I'm a law student and long time tutor who's just made the move to Varsity. I've been tutoring for about eight years now, since I first started working with a friend of a friend's child on his SATs. I graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in economics, and I'm at Hofstra Law School. I tutor the SATs, ACTs, LSAT, GRE, basically all high school subjects, and a bevy of college ones, including history, psychology, economics, law, and writing. That's not because I'm an expert in everything - it's because the only thing I enjoy more than learning is helping someone else learn. A good tutor doesn't just explain the subject to you - they explain what's cool about it, how it applies to your life, and why you want to learn it. If I have to brush up on my AP Chemistry as an excuse to explain why dimensional analysis is actually the most useful math you'll ever learn, I find it thrilling, not a chore. That's really my whole paradigm, as a tutor. Every subject has a relation to both everyday life, and to the coolest parts of the collective achievements of humanity. Learning not just what Pi is, but what it means, is treading the same ground as the people who built the pyramids. We lose that joy - the enrichment granted by greater understanding - too often in sterile and boring classrooms. My goal is to help students attain mastery by providing the context and tools that let them have "Eureka!" moments. Learning is fun, and tutoring is more than just being a living wikipedia article. It's giving life to the dry and soulless problem set, making fun of the trap answers on the LSAT, and linking history to its greatest stories. I don't need gimmicks and games to make that happen. I just find where a student and I can connect over the material, how they learn, and what they're having trouble with. I won't guarantee anyone a score on a test or promise that everyone can get an A in every subject. But I do promise not to waste anyone's time or money. Every session, my students will learn new facts, new techniques, or new ways to understand some boring idea. That's not because I'm the smartest guy in the room: it's because I simply love seeing people learn.

Culturally, I appreciate music, art, theater, film, dance, museums, reading, lectures and travel. My scores are included in my profile. I'm an experienced tutor available for math, physics and general science at all levels (grammar school to college). I have a BS in Physics from Brooklyn College where I minored in mathematics and received a 3.6 GPA. I first worked as a tutor there for other undergrads in physics and calculus at the behest of the physics department. I quickly came to realize I found tutoring very rewarding and continued to tutor after graduation at the Harlem Children's Zone. There I worked on SAT prep for high school students preparing to apply to colleges. I've also been tutoring math to a grammar school student on an ongoing basis (2 years).I try to listen carefully to a student to determine what gives them difficulty or anxiety. I find it most important to instill confidence in the student through methodical study of the subject matter and verbal encouragement. A lack of confidence at test time can be devastating. I watch a student solve problems and take note of how they deal with being stuck. This is crucial in physics and math because at some point everyone "hits a wall" so to speak. I find the solution to this is having the student work through lots of problems with careful prompting to get them used to thinking on their feet.I'm also a musician who enjoys hiking, camping and spending time with my wife and daughters. While physics is my favorite topic, I really enjoy tutoring in math as well. My subjects include (but are not limited to): algebra, trigonometry, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, vector calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, general physics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, chemistry, SAT, etc. Willing to travel in NYC area by subway.
My passion for math and reading started at a very young age, but I quickly understood these subjects aren't fun for everyone. I started tutoring my peers in elementary school, and went on to organize formal peer tutoring groups in middle and high school, to help bridge gaps between teachers' expectations and my peers' reality.I've used my lifelong passion for math and problem solving to obtain my Master's degree in Computer Science, but I know that without a solid background in math and reading, my advanced degree would have been difficult to achieve.I prefer students to understand, from their unique point of view, why 1+1=2, why x*y=z or why "knock" only has one 'k' sound. Kids have a lot going on in their academic and personal lives, so I take time to talk to my students, take a few steps back from the problem and understand how they're tackling the problem. I've found that this conversation facilitates my understanding of how the student learns, and lends to their deeper understanding of concepts to apply to future, independent problem solving.
I am a graduate of Brooklyn College as well as the College of Staten Island. I have earned my Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology and my Masters in Early Childhood Education. I am currently working as a Pre-K teacher to students with exceptional needs. Although I enjoy tutoring all subjects, I am most passionate about Early Reading and Math. I am a firm believer in creating equal learning opportunities for all and providing support to those in need. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and relaxing.

I'm currently an undergraduate upper junior pursuing a BS degree in the field of Actuarial Mathematics at the City University of New York-Brooklyn College. Having etched myself in the Dean's List, I'm keen in sharing my mathematical knowledge to anyone who is interested.I indubitably possess a deep passion in learning mathematics and teaching it to other people, since the time of high school. Furthermore, in high school I was assigned as a student mentor for Pure Mathematics (Calculus) for 2 years. As a student mentor in high school, I taught students Precalculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II. In the process of teaching I gave my students printed tutorials covering a variety of topics. That helped students to master and grasp difficult concepts. As a student mentor, I taught 10 students, whom 7 students got A grades and 3 students got B grades for Pure Mathematics (Calculus)Therefore I look forward to hearing from you and help you to my fullest potential in order to succeed in Mathematics!
I attended Brooklyn College for grad school, earning a Master's degree in English Literature. This followed my previous studies at Brunel University in London, which culminated in a Postgraduate Certificate in Contemporary Literature and Culture. I have a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of York in the U.K. and an International Baccalaureate diploma from the Munich International School. My international education in Germany, Britain, and the United States has prepared me for the exciting challenges and rewards of sharing my bilingual English/German expertise through teaching and tutoring.I spent two years teaching German in grades 1 5 at the Munich International School. I'm familiar with the philosophies and demands of the IB program, from the students' as well as the teachers' perspective. In addition, I've taught English as a Second Language at an academic summer camp for teenagers in Germany. Currently, I organize and lead a creative writing group for adults with my husband at our home in Brooklyn. Over the course of my professional and academic trajectory, tutoring has supplemented and enriched my experience.Whether helping a fourth grader with intermediate-level German homework or guiding a high school senior in writing an analytical essay on Flannery O'Connor's short stories, I relish the chance to delve into the given subject matter and inspire enthusiasm and success. My passion is rooted in though not exclusive to languages, literature, and writing. I tutor all levels of English and German, with a preference for literary and creative genres. One-on-one tutoring presents my ideal teaching scenario: it allows me to provide my undivided attention, to tailor my approach to the student's needs, and to become a supportive and compassionate mentor all around. I strive to engage my student through a dynamic and friendly approach, and to make learning effective and fun.Besides reading and writing, I love live music shows, movies, making photo projects, skiing, the ocean, the night, ice cream, dogs, good company, long conversations, and traveling.
I have experience teaching elementary, middle, and high school students. My expertise is with math (algebra and geometry), history (US and world) as well as english (writing as well as reading). I want my students to genuinely learn and appreciate the material they are learning.
I graduated from CUNY Brooklyn College with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Since then, I have earned certificates from NYU in Marketing, Real Estate, and Construction. I Live to Learn! Learning is growing, expanding one's mind to search for more. It can be exhilarating! I realized I had a passion to teach when I was in college. Along with my real estate practice, I always taught courses, or took courses. I vowed to take 4 courses annually. Adult education has the capacity to learn from students from all walks of life. To collaborate and share our experiences , getting to know others, is fun! That is always my goal, to make my knowledge come alive for others. Real Estate has been my passion for many years. I am a business owner who has traveled the country to enrich my practice. Developing homes has been my greatest passion. To see the finished product and turn over the key to the new homeowner is a privilege. I love to impart my skills in Buying and Selling Real Estate, Today's Mortgage Products, and The Steps to employ when buying your first home, to name a few. Through real life examples we can learn the many tricks of the trade. When I begin each lesson my hope is that I make each and every student expand their knowledge in a way that enhances their life.
I gained a passion for teaching over twenty five years ago; a passion I've not lost after many years. I get immense pleasure when the student(s) grasp a concept, solve a problem, or make any accomplishment whether great or small. My journey as a teacher started as a teacher's aide which inspired me to become a teacher. I was trained in Jamaica and later completed a BA at Brooklyn College NY with my major in Elementary Education. Over the years I have taught in public, and private schools. I have used whole group, small groups, and individual methods. A focal responsibility was to implement grade level appropriate classroom instruction in all basic subject areas. Mathematics and Reading are the subjects I tutor most as that is where there seem to be the greatest need. It's rewarding to me to see the expressions on faces of early learners as they start reading, or a 4th grader being able to solve a Math problem independently. Tutoring empower students to reach a higher potential, and build a greater self worth. As a Tutor I spend much time reading as well.
I am a public health enthusiast and a medical student. I earned my Bachelor's in Biology and a minor in Anthropology from Brooklyn College. I have a Master's in Public Health with a concentration in Health Behaviors and Policy, from St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies. Grenada is where I developed my love for Public Health. I did grassroots work in Community Health and Needs Assessment and worked with Grenadian authorities in order to improve health behaviors in the Grand Anse Valley community in Grenada.Throughout my academics, I have always had a passion to teach. During my undergrad years I worked with Pre-K children through Americorps' Jumpstart program. I learned how to communicate with children who were between the ages of 3 and 5 years and came to a better understanding of how children learn from their environment. After my graduation, I taught 8th graders who were being home-schooled. I absolutely loved to create a bit of excitement in learning science and math. And, during med school, I tutored my peers and younger colleagues to tackle subjects like Anatomy and Physiology. I wanted to make their path through med school a little bit easier and less stressful. My approach to tutoring is that of understanding subjects, rather than rushing to the answer. I have always believed that the confidence students have in themselves plays a big role in learning, whereas fear and anxiety are a hindrance to learning and memory. This is a key player when it comes to exams as well. My main goal is always to help the student to learn how to maneuver through problems and obstacles even if they haven't come across them before. This always helps them to become confident in themselves and to not let challenges bring them down.
As a child I developed a love for reading that has lasted throughout my adult life. I enjoy helping students acquire strong literacy skills and instilling in them a similar love of reading. I received my Bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College with a major in Television Production and a minor in English. It was my study in English literature that eventually led me into teaching. I have taught in both preschool and public school. As a teacher it was my responsibility to help students learn and expand their literacy skills such as; letter recognition, phonics, grammar and vocabulary. Since reading and writing are so closely connected I also enjoy helping students to express their ideas and opinions on paper. I have taught both general and special education students; so I am familiar with writing and maintaining IEP goals. I think learning should be interactive and interesting, therefore I try to use music and games whenever appropriate. When I begin working with a student; I assess their current skills so that I can build on what they already know and help them to achieve their academic goals.I believe that all children can learn given the right tools and support.
I'm Alex. I've lived in NYC for 7 years and currently live in Downtown Brooklyn. I work in marketing but have a strong background in Speech Language Pathology. I also make ceramics and practice improv, which I believe contribute to my dynamic approach to tutoring.I have a Bachelor of Science from New York University and a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Brooklyn College. Prior to Graduate school I worked as a tutor for children between the ages of 7-12 focused on phonological awareness, reading comprehension, writing skills, and vocabulary. I taught college courses during my time at Brooklyn College in science, public speaking, and an overview of speech language pathology. I love teaching a variety of subject matter in creative ways as I believe true understanding comes when you are truly immersed in a topic. I really enjoy finding activities that encourage individuals to enjoy the tasks that are challenging them by incorporating favorite topics and games.I have experience working with individuals ages 0-99 years old. Through my graduate study I also worked closely with individuals with special needs. I understand that tutoring involves individualizing lesson plans because everyone learns differently. I love finding the methods that work best for my students and seeing the joy that comes from success in the classroom. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!I love teaching English as a second language. Learning a language is frustrating at times but it can also be a lot of fun. I believe the more applications you have with a language and the more engaged you are the better your understanding will be. There are so many creative ways to approach learning a new language and I love working together with my student to find the ways that make it the most enjoyable and effective. I am a graduate of both Brooklyn College, CUNY for my Bachelors in Geology and Queens College, CUNY for my Masters in Education. Aside from my more than 30 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I am well-traveled (parts of Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Caribbean) and multi-lingual. I am passionate about my profession, ever searching for the best ways to help my students learn. I tutor a broad range of subjects, mostly in the areas of mathematics and the sciences. I am most passionate about Earth Sciences and Astronomy, Chemistry and test preparation for the SAT and ACT in Mathematics. In my experience helping struggling students prepare for Standardized Tests, I always am engaging my students in the problem-solving aspects of these examinations, ever honing their strategies to be successful. As a tutor, I firmly believe in engaging with and learning about how my students think and learn so that I can adapt my strategies for maximum success. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading which enriches my life, enjoying time with my family, relaxing on a beach, and learning. I am a life-long learner, and I always encourage my students to learn from their own life experiences.
There's no limit to what you can learn! Why does math and science feel so complicated? - Since I started tutoring remotely in 2021, I have noticed from my students this is "the" question they want answered. Historically, mathematics evolved out of necessity. They were developed to simplify and to record essential financial and astronomical information. In my view, math still feels complicated today because the culture surrounding it is still evolving - despite unprecedented access to technology and educational content. One practical way to address this disengagement is to make math personal. For me, this means offering alternative interpretations, encouraging discussion, and treating math as a language to be understood. Then, the procedures you learn and memorize in class will make sense. My methods help answer "why do I need to know this"?
In my opinion, the role of a teacher goes beyond educating the students. The different roles teachers have prepare students for life and the career they choose. I believe my role as a teacher is to be the manager, the planner, observer, rapport builder, observer of signs of trouble, build a warm environment, and be a positive role model.
I hold a BA from UMass Amherst in Political Economy and MS from Brooklyn College in Mathematics Education, both summa cum laude. I am currently attending NYU Wagner, working on my Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Education Policy.I have been a NYC DOE math teacher for the past four years, three years as a 6th- 8th grade math teacher and my last year teaching Algebra, Geometry/Trig and Health. I have taught classes ranging from advance placement to remedial, including CCT and ESL. I absolutely believe that every student can succeed in math. My approach to teaching/tutoring is building confidence through math. Often times, I have students who say they "don't get it." However, I show them they may not get the whole picture yet, but they do have an understanding of some. And by showing them tangible steps they can use time and again, students see they can "get it". Those "ah-ha" moments are not only building blocks in their skills, but more importantly, reinforcing who they are and their abilities. For my students who already have confidence in their math ability, it is about pushing them to the next level. Math is about problem solving, puzzles and thinking outside the box. By presenting problems within their skillset but slightly beyond their experience, it allows for the imaginary side of math to emerge while preparing them to approach a new problem with confidence. As the Math Department Head of my school, I have an intricate understanding of math standards for 6th- 12th grade, as well as the new Common Core Standards being piloted through NYC this year. This knowledge paired with my classroom understanding has been key to not only preparing my students for their current grade but really hone in what knowledge they will really need for the next sequential math classes. Recognized as a DOE Honors Teacher, I have prepared students for various standardized test, Regents, AP and SATs with great results. Grading the DOE math exams for 3-8th grade, Algebra and Math A/B Regents has given me the knowledge as to what the state looks for as well.Math has always been my favorite subject. It pains me when a student says they hate math because it usually means they encountered a past teacher who cared more about "the right answer" then the multiple approaches to understanding the answer.

I've been tutoring students for over 5 years for a wide range of topics, including the ACT, the SAT, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Essay Writing, and AP Psychology. I enjoy working with a variety of students, ages 8-20. In terms of my clients, I like working with dedicated, passionate students who are willing to put in the work to achieve their goals. For me, tutoring is about working with a student until they are able to achieve their goal, and even beyond that so that they have the confidence to continue pursuing their dreams. I'm very patient, calm, and thorough when covering a subject, and I truly enjoy watching my students transform into confident, knowledgeable people ready to tackle anything before them. Besides tutoring, I enjoy traveling, reading, and cooking. I'm also part of a debate team at my college, and enjoy public speaking activities.
Tutoring has always been more than just helping students complete assignments or prepare for exams. To me, it is about creating a supportive environment where students feel encouraged, understood, and confident in their ability to learn. I enjoy working closely with students, helping them overcome challenges, strengthen their skills, and realize their potential both academically and personally.

As of now, I am pursuing the Social Studies teacher certification, which will hopefully help me to obtain my MA. I have a wide variety of hobbies which include writing, baseball, football (soccer), snowboarding, swimming, weightlifting, among others.
