Hi! My name is Arianna Tabankin, and I am a pre-med senior at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry and nutrition. I am graduating with honors (summa cum laude) and remaining at UPenn for a master's degree in public health. After two gap years I hope to continue on to med school. I have been a tutor for UPenn's Weingarten Academic Center for over three years and have hundreds of hours of experience tutoring biology. I also hold a mentorship position to help new tutors flourish in the program. I believe that every student can become a better writer. There is a myth that you have to be born a Shakespeare to be a good writer, but that isn't true. You just need a solid foundation in the basics -- grammar and punctuation -- and you need to commit yourself to always increase your vocabulary so you will have a wide range of words to work with. After those skills are under your belt, it's merely a matter of practice. All human beings want to express themselves; writing is one chief way that we humans do that. The more you write -- and edit and proofread your writing -- the better a writer you will be. You will be able to develop a strong writing voice and become a great communicator in print.
