The student completed a lab assignment in which he used cabbage juice and several other pH indicators to estimate the pH of several solutions. These solutions were grouped based on their color after reacting with different pH indicators, and classified as either acids or bases. The ranges of the different indicators were also investigated.

During this session we worked on reviewing for the student's final. We went through past midterms to find any problem areas. We primarily focused on electricity and charge but we also covered some ideal gas law concepts as well. With electrical currents we covered finding voltages and currents when you know the resistances of a circuit. This involved looking at Kirchhoff's rules and what stays constant with parallel and series circuits. We then looked at electrical forces and field strengths. During this we primarily focused on vector addition. We also discussed what makes something an ideal gas and how the ideal gas law can be manipulated.

We reviewed all of the chapters about optics in preparation for the student's upcoming test. We practiced drawing refraction angles as well as calculating the angle using Snell's Law and how to determine if there is no refraction because all of the light is being reflected. We also reviewed color and how we see colors and knowing when to use the primary color vs. the secondary color triangles. Lastly, we also reviewed electromagnetic radiation and which types have longer wavelengths and how radiation is produced from electrons moving around the nucleus of an atom. She is feeling confident about the other topics in this section such as the parts of the eye and ray diagrams for objects seen in mirrors or lenses so she is planning on going through the review questions for these topics on her own before the test.

We reviewed chapter 10 in the student's chemistry book on gases. We went through some topics that had been covered in class and some that were still to come. He seemed to grasp the overall concepts and was able to answer the questions correctly. I gave him an outline of important concepts and highlighted some problems to practice with.

For today's session, the student and I discussed a more in-depth summary of sound waves. This followed from our previous discussion on simple harmonic motion and waves, so she already had a nice background in wave motion. Concerning sound waves, we talked about noise vs sound, related SHM in different types of wind instruments, and discussed what would happen if we had two sources of sound at varying distances from each other. We have been collecting notes during our sessions that have relevant derived equations including pictures and diagrams for better understanding of the concepts, so we worked off of these notes from our previous session on wave motion. During this session we also went through some practice problems that she might see on her test, as well as problems given in her assignment. She only had a problem with a few of the exercises that she had tried prior to our session. One of them was due to her making an arithmetic error, and the others we were able to walk through together.
