Session Summaries by GMAT Tutors

GMAT Tutoring review by Kerry in West Valley City, UT
This was our first session, and we spent most of our time on an intro to LR and RC. The student is great at RC right off the bat! Most of our future sessions will likely focus on LR and LG, which he feels will be his hardest section.

GMAT Tutoring review by Carl in West Valley City, UT
Today was my first meeting with the student. Accordingly, we began by discussing her history with the test and her overall goals, which are ambitious, but she's willing to put in the time and work. We discussed materials and overall prep strategy, then moved on to a specific analysis of her diagnostic exam, paying special attention to Logic Games, and discussing how to use previous work in a game to answer the "global" questions. She's going to finish the review of the test using some resources I recommended and we'll pick up with test fundamentals next time we meet.

GMAT Tutoring review by Max in West Valley City, UT
Today was the student's first experience with the LSAT, so I gave her some general test information and then had her do some initial questions from the Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension sections. I reviewed any questions she found difficult or missed, while sharing strategies to help answer each type of question. She quickly understood each explanation and I am confident that her performance will improve rapidly. For our next session, I told her to complete all of the test that we were working on, so that we could review it on Wednesday.

GMAT Tutoring review by Stacie in West Valley City, UT
Today we began with a timed Sequencing game. The student worked through the game perfectly using the strategy we discussed last week and got all 7 questions correct. This is a major improvement already from his first practice test. We then worked through strategies and sample questions for Parallel Reasoning and Paradox questions from the Arguments section. Before our next session, the student has two additional Sequencing games to complete (timed), and I will also be sending him sets of practice questions on all three of the Arguments question types that we have covered this weekend.

GMAT Tutoring review by Mark in West Valley City, UT
Today we briefly discussed general strategies for logical reasoning (read the question first, then the passage) and reading comprehension. Then we went over two logic games from the latest test the student took. I am seeing improvement in his ability to recognize and process the logic used on this section. I can see it starting to make sense. I want to continue to work on recognizing what each question is asking for, such as "must be", "cannot be", "could be", "all could be except", etc. at our next session.

GMAT Tutoring review by Rebecca in West Valley City, UT
Today we covered all sections of the test; the student struggles most with reading comprehension. It seems like when she isn't interested in the passage it is harder for her to absorb the information; we are going to focus on passages that are "not interesting" to try to overcome this issue. Student is getting very good at logic games and enjoys them; she is also fairly competent at the logical reasoning section with the exception of necessary condition and inference questions. I will be sending her a list of assignments for the week, focusing mainly on reading comprehension and essays.
