HSPT Tutoring review by Jennifer in West Valley City, UT
The student and I worked through two reading comprehension passages and 30 ACT math questions. He did well on the fictional prose passage but struggled more with the comparative humanities passage, which we worked through at a paragraph level. On the math section, we focused on algebraic expressions and geometry questions, particularly surface area and distance.

HSPT Tutoring review by Songnam in West Valley City, UT
The student completed her functions practice problems and got 8/14 questions correct. We reviewed polynomials, notation, and domain and range. Afterwards, we went back to her practice ACT Math section and reviewed all the questions she missed last time. She successfully explained all of the ones she missed and feels more confident she could get similar ones correct next time. The topics covered were the same as yesterday: volume, inequalities, special right triangles, and complex word problems. I assigned her another practice ACT math section.

HSPT Tutoring review by Kerry in West Valley City, UT
The student did quite well today. We continued our work with indirect object pronouns, which he handled with ease. We ran out of time before we ran out of exercises, so he said he would finish the exercise set on his own and would like me to check his work when he's done.

HSPT Tutoring review by Stephanie in West Valley City, UT
The student did very well this week. We reviewed the Math with Calculator diagnostic she did last week and worked through most of a Reading section from Practice Test #1. Of the Reading passages, she encountered the most trouble on the literary excerpt. This is frequently the case with students who are good readers and are more attuned to nuances of style and meaning. The best way for her to raise her score on the Verbal section will be to work through as much practice material as possible in order to accustom herself to the test writers' way of thinking about and talking about literature. She will be able to improve her score on the Math section by reviewing old concepts, filling in gaps in her knowledge, and familiarizing herself with the kinds of questions she can expect to see on the test.

HSPT Tutoring review by Kristen in West Valley City, UT
The student did well today in our final review for his assessment exams. I feel good about his preparation and think that he will do well on both exams. He was definitely tired so a good night's sleep before tomorrow is recommended! We worked on long answer problems for geometry which can be harder, but he did very well on them. I encouraged him to show as much work as possible on the exam in order to receive full credit.

HSPT Tutoring review by Owen in West Valley City, UT
The student did well today. He is working very hard and is taking this seriously. When he practices his reading comprehension, it is very important that he pays very close attention to exactly what the passages are saying and what the questions are asking. The passages and following questions can be boring, so it is especially important to be on high alert while working that his mind is not wandering. He understands most of the math; it is important for him to do practice problems and become better acquainted with the different types of problems being asked.
