Session Summaries by Mandarin Chinese Tutors

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Kathryn in West Valley City, UT
The student worked on her homework and practiced listening exercises, and preterit and imperfect use and conjugations, including irregular verbs. She also has a lot of new vocabulary to learn and is making good progress. She is quite good at the listening exercises. She will need to keep working on knowing when to use preterit and imperfect and how to form the conjugations (it is a distinction that takes all Spanish learners a long time to master).

The student and spent the entire session going over his Spanish 2 readiness test that he will be re-given this coming week. He has most major concepts covered, but is rusty with some of the minutiae of conjugation and masculine/feminine agreement concepts. He also is not super solid on a lot of basic vocab, such as days/months/salutations, etc. He has packets with these, and we will go over them in the next few session in order to supplement his classwork. He seems to have a very genuine drive to get better at this language, which will help the learning immeasurably.

The student and I continued to work on identifying pronouns and conjugating verbs. Putting the words into sentences with context seems to be a good strategy for her, and it helps to reinforce the meanings of the vocabulary words. For the last part of our session, we did some Spanish practice. She said that she liked it a lot because it was very interactive, and the repetition definitely helped the words to stick in her mind. I'll incorporate the app into our future sessions, especially so that she can get exposure to different ways for practicing verb conjugations.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Kristen in West Valley City, UT
The student was very excited that she had only missed one question on her quiz last week. Last night we practiced some basic vocabulary, did some exercises in her workbook, and then practice conjugating regular -ar, -er, and -ir verbs in the present tense. I showed her a way to set up a chart to make remembering the endings a bit easier. We practiced this multiple times and also reviewed a couple common irregular verbs. She picked this up very quickly and said she thought the chart really helped her to remember the conjugations.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Edgar in West Valley City, UT
Today we were finally able to catch up with all of the student's homework. We called his teacher's google voice and left a short Spanish conversation. The lesson surrounding today had to do with affirmative and negative commands. He now knows the formula for forming these commands by knowing the infinitive verb.
