Physiology Tutoring review by Michael in West Valley City, UT
Yesterday, we reviewed two problem sets in preparation for the student's upcoming exam. We covered ideal gases, the ideal gas law PV=nRT, how this becomes the combined gas law which can be used to solve problems involving an initial and final state, calculating kinetic energy, temperature as the definition of average kinetic energy, the root-mean-squared formula for calculating the velocity of gases, and exothermic vs endothermic reactions and some stoichiometry. We agreed to meet again and continue working through the discussion packet, and I noticed her catching on well to the conceptual material.

I had made PowerPoint slides with unlabeled figures for the student to label of the phospholipid bilayer, the transport pathway in the cell that deals with both the Golgi and the ER, enzyme catalysis, and both passive and active transport. I asked her quiz questions that dealt with all of these topics, and we also went over some questions that she has. She is a very smart young lady, and she seems to enjoy biology. However, she does seem to have trouble with trusting her gut on her first answer and changes it. She needs to be able to have the confidence that she does know what she has learned.

The student and I spent time reviewing for her chemistry test next Monday. We went over the review packet her teacher gave her that was due tomorrow. We spent a lot of time going over electron configurations, electron energy levels, orbitals, etc. She was a very eager student and very excited about going over the material. She expressed concern that her teacher was hard to follow in the classroom, so we broke down the material. I learned that she is a visual learner so I typed out notes of everything I said and also drew a lot of diagrams. We will be meeting again this Sunday to review more material and complete more practice problems before her test on Monday.

Physiology Tutoring review by Amber in West Valley City, UT
Today we worked on thermochemistry problems with multiple steps. Though he is doing much better with the single step problems, the multiple step problems were a little tricky at times. He got a 100% on his quiz.

Today the student did several of her schoology assignments. We also worked on a memory game with her polyatomic ions. She did much better with them this time. Our goal is for her to have them all memorized by Monday.
