Calculus Tutoring review by Adam in South Jordan, UT
We went over problems in simplifying trigonometric expressions of the same kind that we covered last session. The student definitely made progress over the course of the session and is getting used to the problem solving pattern needed.

We worked on multivariable optimization. I explained the concept to the student. Basically, in the interior of regions you set all partial derivatives to 0, and examine second derivatives to classify such points. If you have a boundary and are asked about absolute maxes/mins, you then have to reduce the function to what it is on each part of the boundary and find any absolute optima there, which could involve deriving again and looking at corner (boundary-of-boundary) points.

Calculus Tutoring review by Connor in South Jordan, UT
We worked through a lot of small stuff today, talking about continuity and how to estimate the shapes that will produce such continuity and using that to check answers. We also went over some more complicated derivatives and tricks for accomplishing them, as well as integrals. We also covered the MVT and how to apply it, and generally what it is. The student has a test tomorrow and we will see how he does.

Calculus Tutoring review by David in South Jordan, UT
The student and I met to discuss relative and absolute extrema and derivatives. He has a good overall understanding of the concepts so we worked through the problems to focus him on some of the details (such as when a function =0 or is undefined) during our meeting.

Calculus Tutoring review by Jason in South Jordan, UT
We covered material for a test on Monday: taking derivatives (from the definition, using the power, product, quotient, and chain rule) of polynomial and rational functions, determining points non-differentiability in graphs of functions, graphing derivatives of functions and graphing functions from their derivatives, and finding tangent and normal lines of functions. The student seems to have a good understanding of these concepts and the steps needed to solve problems--I would recommend that she slow down, not skip steps, and review her work before submitting.

Calculus Tutoring review by Anne in South Jordan, UT
The student and I worked on his last homework assignment, which covered a review of several different types of problems and a number of problems involving integration with u-substitution and integration by parts. He is fairly confident with integration by parts, which is great. He has a study plan to begin reviewing for the final exam.
