Hi - I'm Peter. I've always had a preference for math and science, which explains my undergrad choice in engineering. I graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I received my MBA (Industrial Management) from the Wharton Graduate Division at U. of Pa. My primary work experience prior to teaching was in business planning and finance (more math). I started teaching because I enjoyed helping students at Baruch College prep for graduate school entrance exams (GMAT, LSAT, GRE). Later on, I aided community college students to break through their difficulties in basic math, algebra, quantitative literacy and statistics/probability (remedial math courses). Many of these students were the first in their families to attend college. I've been teaching math for 25+ years, both in a classroom setting and, more recently, on-line. I prefer to use a whiteboard and other visuals to present the problems and explain the methodology and steps that lead to the solution. If you are my student I would encourage you to first think through the problem and work it through on your own whenever possible, as it helps to foster self-confidence. Then I can step in and assist where I can to guide you to the correct solution. I like to put myself in my student's place in order to understand what hurdle(s) they need to overcome to solve the math question. I can explain approaches to the solution in several ways until it makes sense to you. I am available pretty much during the week or on weekends from late morning until early evenings and can make exceptions when necessary. I would be happy to hold an initial exploratory session at no charge just so we can get to know each other and agree on what we can accomplish together.

I am a licensed pharmacist in the US, but had the opportunity to teach clinical pharmacy overseas {Japan and Thailand} to undergraduate and graduate students as university faculty. I was also an associate director of the Department of Pharmacy at a 1000-bed private hospital in Japan for seven years, in charge of professional (pharmacists) and interprofessional (medical residents, nurses in medication use) learning. I also set up a residency program and provided bedside teaching. These valuable experiences helped me to grow in my career as a healthcare professional and teacher. I am also Board Certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) and Geriatric Pharmacy (BCGP). After I moved back to New York City in 2019, I have been practicing as a pharmacist in an independent pharmacy and working as a Chinese interpreter for the City government. I hope I can share what I know in medicine/pharmacy and languages with interested people.

I am a graduate of Brown University who tutors high school students via Skype or in person in the SATs, PSATs, and/or the SAT Math 2 Subject Test. I had a wonderful tutor for the SATs and for the SAT Math 2 Tests, so I understand how the standardized test tutoring process can be productive, fun, and ultimately successful. I also understand the importance of tailoring the process to the students individual abilities and needs. In high school, I tutored elementary school students in math, reading, and writing, and I tutored my classmates at my school's math center. I am passionate about film and film production, and in my spare time I also enjoy reading and basketball.

I graduated from Dartmouth College with a double major, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in both Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Music. I continued my education at Columbia University and received Master of Arts in Biology. Starting in middle school and continuing through my graduate career, I have tutored students in a wide variety of subjects, but I was most effective at tutoring math and science because of my lifelong love and aptitude for these subjects. Since I am also working towards a career in molecular biology, I use math and science every day, and I can explain real-world applications and uses for these subjects that may not seem obvious. By demonstrating the use of math and science in everyday life, I am able to help interact with the student and increase their interest in a subject in which they may experience difficulty. With a wide range of needs and urgencies, I learned how to break down complex ideas into approachable steps, fill in gaps in their understanding, and tailor each session to meet individual needs. I've guided high schoolers through personalized ACT and SAT prep, sharing my tips/tricks and improving their current test-taking strategies. I completely understand that tough subjects can be overwhelming when one is confused; the learning journey typically leaves you confuzzled/frustrated. However, I'm here to clear the fog. Each session with a student consists of consistent, guided instruction that fosters independence and confidence in their skills. While I can instruct in many subjects, I love to tutor in math and English.

I firmly believe that the vast majority of students who believe they are "bad at math" have tragically internalized this identity without true justification. I have personally seen students of mine shed that persona and it is a special thing to witness.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, I need to stay home for the next few months. I do not want to stop my tutoring so here I am looking to help students virtually! Medical school has made biology my favorite subject to tutor in as I've really nailed in me how to learn and understand a lot of material in a short amount of time.
