My first tutoring experiences revolved around my younger brother and cousins- mainly tutoring them in middle school math and science. Since then, I have gone on to tutor and help students in high school, college, and graduate school. No matter the subject or the age of the student, I always focus on understanding HOW the student learns. I do this so that I can adjust my teaching style to most effectively help the student.I obtained my undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Florida State University. I received my PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University in December 2016. While at Rice, I was a teaching assistant for undergraduate genetics and graduate molecular biophysics. During this time, I was also a co-creator and mentor for the Institute of Bioengineering and Biosciences Girls STEM Initiative- a three year program where rising high school sophomore girls are engaged and mentored in STEM fields.Overall, I hope to empower students by helping them achieve better subject understanding and higher test scores.

I am a recent Hunter College undergrad (majored in Neuroscience) working as a Biology and Chemistry teacher at Lower Manhattan Art Academy (a Title 1 school) during the day and tutoring in the evening. I have been tutoring since high school in all subjects, and more recently, college students in Statistics and high school juniors in SAT prep. I also spent this last winter abroad in Ecuador teaching high school students the English language. I have an extra close connection with middle and high school students as I have two brothers in those grades and through my other previous/current experiences. I volunteer with the Red Cross where I am a part of the PillowCase seminars where I go into middle school classes and stress the importance of fire safety. I also volunteer with Peer Health Exchange, an organization that delivers 9th graders health seminars to those that may not receive health class in high school. Lastly, I volunteered at Rockefeller University Science OutReach Lab where I instruct middle/high school students basic science laboratory techniques and share some of my college experience. I have a Masters of Science in Finance and a Bachelors of Administration in Business Management and Accounting all from Sam Houston State University.I have taught and tutored students ranging from elementary to secondary and post secondary education. Having been a student I learned to appreciate the benefits that having a one on one tutor brings. As a result I love being able to pass my knowledge and experience on to others and providing the same personal attention that benefited me greatly.My favorite subjects to teach are English and anything that has to do with reading and reading comprehension. In addition, because of my educational background and job experience I enjoying subjects associated with accounting, finance and business including business writing.I prefer to read a book versus watch tv (P.D. James, John Grishom, Patricia Cornwell, Greg Iles). When tutoring I like to have fun. Sessions should be a good mix of seriousness to accomplish set goals as well as enjoyable to keep students interested and at ease.

I am currently at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a bachelor degree in petroleum engineering. Since January 2016, I have been tutoring Math and Physics at my current college. These two subjects are my favorites because I am proficient. My tutoring style consists in having my students complete some practice problems that encompass the concepts they do not understand in order to identify their needs and help them master what could not before. My interests outside of academia consist in playing soccer and swimming. Also, I like to watch documentaries and movies, to read books, and to go for a walk in my neighborhood.

I am a rising sophomore at Cornell University, studying Human Biology, Health and Society. I am on the premed track and am pursuing a minor in South Asian Studies. I was born in India and grew up in Singapore and Buffalo, NY, where I currently live. This past semester, I tutored middle and high school students in math, biology, and chemistry in Ithaca. I also particularly enjoy tutoring for standardized tests such as the ACT, as I feel it is where students are able to make a lot of progress quickly, and it also tends to be the most rewarding for both the students and for me! As someone who loves making organized and detailed plans, I believe having a clear set of goals for one's future is the key to success, and this can be applied to anything, from a single test to one's entire career.
