ASPIRE Tutoring review by Thomas in Lansing, IL
The student and I reviewed one hour of US History, again going over the major points from the Revolutionary War to the current time. I went decade to decade, major war to major war, and emphasized the Presidents during these eras and the major themes of each time period (decade to decade). She continues to improve in history. Then, she took two reading English practice tests. and got 18 out of 20 questions correct...a job well done. Again, she keeps getting better and better.

ASPIRE Tutoring review by Joshua in Lansing, IL
Today the student did a great job taking a number of test sections. She reasoned through her answers, compared answer choices to pick the best one, and even marked, without prompting, a question she got correct but was not sure about. Good job!

ASPIRE Tutoring review by Michael in Lansing, IL
The student made good progress on his diagnostic test and completed quite a few passages, which I was very proud of. We went over taking faster and more condensed notes after reading the passages. We also went over how taking practice tests will allow us to familiarize ourselves with the types of details the test makers are testing for. I also showed him some websites that offer practice tests and video tutorials for the specific police department he will be applying for. These resources would be invaluable for his studying because the questions are geared specifically for the test he will be taking. The current review book we are using is a comprehensive prep book that covers police exams all over the nation. We are continuing to set the goal of finishing the diagnostic test by the end of next week and taking a full length practice test before the beginning of April.

ASPIRE Tutoring review by Helen Joan in Lansing, IL
I met with the student and explained that if he was an expert test grader it would likely make him a better test taker. Focusing on the short response criteria of the exam, I asked him to read a passage retrieved online. The reading was a myth based on a spider. He read the passage, made relevant underlines as previously instructed, took notes that answered the short response question, and then with me graded four different student responses. At the end of the session, with his mom present, it was clear that he definitely understood the test from a different perspective and learned pertinent strategies, especially pulling text, like quotes, directly from the story.
