Essay Editing Tutoring review by Jerzy in Lansing, IL
The student and I continued to work on reading comprehension. We started reading a new book. We took turns reading and asking questions about what we read. Also, I noticed that he tends to put too much pressure his palm while writing. We corrected his form, and he was encouraged to put less pressure on his hand while writing.

The student and I continued to work on the math skills of telling time, story problems with elapsed time, and identifying 10 less and 10 more of given numbers. We also reviewed fractions. She was a little frustrated at one point, but then she was able to work past it. In Reading, we started a chapter book. The student is working on reading fluently and restating what she reads to insure comprehension. She seemed to really enjoy this book, so I offered to let her read some of it this week and tell me about it at our next session. She was excited about that idea. This was definitely a win because she has not shown an interest in reading on her own before now. We also worked on a reading activity of identifying unknown words in a passage, using context clues. She was focused and cooperative.

The student and I continued to work on the past and present perfect tense, both in conversation and in written exercises. She has been watching at least one TED video a day, without closed captioned text, and is making fantastic progress, both in her understanding and in speaking.

The student and I continued to work on the reading and writing. His mom and I have discovered that as he develops his writing, his reading will improve. He did very well. I provided homework, which involves writing in a journal, a 'book report,' and another writing assignment that we will work on during the session. His writing has definitely improved.

Essay Editing Tutoring review by Jessica in Lansing, IL
The student and I continued with our word study. He did well defining the words within context and making connections to understand the terms. We did a couple of writing tasks. In the first, he did not include enough detail based on the story. He revised and lengthened it. We discussed the need for him to make note of the type of writing task and his requirements so that he can most effectively satisfy the task guidelines. We also discussed some analysis questions for which he had to think about author's purpose, make inferences, and think about Brian's character.

Essay Editing Tutoring review by Kendra in Lansing, IL
The student and I continued with several readings today. I had him read, answer some analytical questions, outline the article, and then write a summary using his own words. We worked on helping his writing flow between sentences and how to put things in the most effective order to convey information. He does pretty well with the outlines, just needing a bit of a push to get more specific. His writing needs some work when it comes to sentence formatting and order. We will keep working on this together.
